Responsibility

Long had I foreseen the necessity of destroying the one thing native to Sauron’s power yet I have not expected that in hobbits lies the greatest responsibility. Say not it is folly yet for if success enfolds, a ‘fool’s hope’ may prove otherwise. I will help the Ring-bearer, as long as I am able to.

To overthrow Middle-earth’s pervasive evil or to fail the appointed task: the last opportunity is before me. The roads are long, hard to Mordor and how I am fated to go, I cannot say.

As the Fellowship’s leader, everyone’s fate lies in my hands. I cannot fail.
