My Collection of Drabbles   by Periantari

Too Early

“Sam dear, why are you awake already?” Bell peeked up at little drowsy Samwise besides her bed up before the crack of dawn.

“I wanted to …get ready for the day, Momma,” Sam’s brown eyes gazed out the round window only to see still darkness.

“Come along, you should return to bed… Da won’t garden with you till you get some more rest.”  Bell got up from bed, picked Sam up (though he was becoming quite a big lad), and tucked him in a nest of cottony, wooly blankets.

“Will you wake me when Da is outside gardening?”

“Course, sweetie… now close your eyes.”  Bell brought the blanket up to Sam’s chin, ruffled his hair affectionately, and kissed his head of brown soft curls.

Sam-lad snuggled into his soft pillows and warm blankets.  Before he could say more, his eyelids closed to the sweet fragrance of his Ma besides him.
