Some time ago, I got the idea for this story while reading a chapter of Dreamflower's "EUCATASTROPHE: THE RETURN, PART 7" which is currently in progress here on "Stories of Arda". In part 7 of her story the following exchange takes place:

“D’you know,” said Pippin thoughtfully, “what the best thing about my next birthday will be?”

“What’s that, Pip?” asked Merry warily.

“Why, I shall be of age, and I can certainly eat as much of my own birthday cake as I wish, with no one to gainsay me!”

This conversation gave me an idea. With Dreamflower's permission I have taken this plot bunny and turned it into the story that follows here. Since July 1st is Dreamflower's birthday I thought that this would be a very good time to post this. Happy Birthday, Dreamflower! I do hope you enjoy what I've done with your little plot bunny.
