| *sighs* I got distracted from my reading! Oh well, back to filling up your inbox =) I like Sam and Rosie very much here, as well as Tom and Marigold. Do you have any family planned out for Tom and Marigold? Their children would be "double first cousins" to Sam and Rosie's brood! Kaylee Author Reply: Yes, they would be double cousins, and I know that Marigold has a child only a few months younger than Elanor, though no one has yet told me if it was a lad or a lass. They have some other children too, I know, but again no details. | |

| Poor Gaffer. He did not want his babies to grow up so soon! A Sleigh Ride is something I never got to do in my 60 years. Maybe some day I will. Sounds nice and cozy. Author Reply: I never have, either, though I did finally get to go for my first carriage ride this Christmas! Well, I imagine the Gaffer was a bit protective of the two youngest chicks in his brood! | |

| Oh, surely Sam could have stolen one *tiny* little kiss! LOL He's too proper for his own good sometimes. What a lovely - but cold! - day the two couples had. But, were they back in time for tea? lol Author Reply: My Sam's so much in love that he's almost *too* respectful of Rose. Usually it's up to her to initiate any kisses for them! They did have fun, and got home just in time! | |

| A lovely atmospheric chapter. What a gorgous picture this conjures up, and how sweet to see these two couples out enjoying themselves. Love the Gaffer as protective father, and Lily Cotton dealing with him in just the right way. Happy New Year! Author Reply: I think that Sam/Rose and Tom/Marigold may have done a lot of what passed for "double-dating" in hobbit social circles. The Gaffer, it seems to me, would have been protective of his "baby girl"--but Lily's an old friend and knows just what to say. | |

| Gosh, this lovely picture reminds me of a Courier & Ives portrait. :-) I love those old pictures! LOL, and Sam is so...Sam! Excellent tale. | This could have been written off the song! (Or was it? *grins*) So nice and peaceful. This was my favourite bit: She was right fond of Mr. Frodo herself, and she'd never say a word against him, knowing as how Sam thought he hung the Moon... LOL! | If only everyone could be as gentle as Sam - truly loving and respectful. The world has a lot to learn from hobbits! | What a lovely sleigh ride! I love the Gaffer pursing up his lips and disapproving. (And it's just as well Rosie and Sam are sensible - or they'd have had two dozen children!) I like the substantial picnic, too - hobbits wouldn't be hobbits if they didn't attend to the inner person! Author Reply: Well, of course, mostly because it's his daughter out there, LOL! But he also has his crusty reputation to maintain. Lily's an old friend though, and she knows how to handle his "disapproval". Of course they had a good-sized picnic hamper! No hobbit would set out on an excursion without one! *grin* | |

| Oh, how nice that sounds! Living in a snow-less place, and having grown up in an snow-less place, a simple sleigh ride and winter picnic with dear ones sounds quite magical. I also loved the depiction of Mari as a flirt, and Tom settling her down. Both Rosie and Sam agreed on that, LOL. And how characteristic of Sam to be "careful of his Rose." They are as much the great love story of the Lord of the Rings as Aragorn and Arwen. Lovely little vignette, Dream. Author Reply: I've never lived where they had much snow, either. But I love the image of it, and the other day when I heard an arrangement of "Sleigh Ride", I thought what a very *hobbity* sort of song it was--so naturally that made me think of fic. I immediately thought of these two couples, courting. Marigold is just a bit flirtacious, but she does love her Tom very much. Sam's a responsible lad, and very deeply in love with Rose. He *knows* he can wait. I agree. JRRT himself said that about them--that theirs was an important love story to the book! | |
