I wonder why Merry and the rodents were mentioned! It looks like Merry and the others had an interesting day there in the house, after all. But Merry's last reaction shows that he's rather short-tempered at the moment. Maybe he still hasn't found the perfect prank? Author Reply: Merry is not overly fond of rodents! The hobbits did end up enjoying their day well enough, though I'm sure they'd be much happier lounging in the library and garden all day. Thankfully, this was only a one-day gig. ;) Merry will get inspiration soon. Carrying out his plot though will be a different matter. :D

Ah--perfect! Love the details and particularly the painting of Firiel. Author Reply: Thank you! I enjoyed imaging the King's house and discovering its treasures along with the hobbits and their guards.

I love stories that take place in the early days of Aragorn's reign. There had to have been so much happening "behind the scenes." I can tell that I will just love this story on many levels. Thanks Author Reply: Hullo utfrog! Tolkien just hints at what all Aragorn was up to during his first few months of reign - but he gives us almost no news on what the hobbits and the rest of the Fellowship were up to during that time. It's been fun trying to fill in the blanks. Thanks for reading!

I love Pippin worrying about Faramir because he didn't finish his food, LOL! You can take the hobbit out of the Shire, but you can't take the Shire out of the hobbit! This Conspiracy is beginning to get very complicated. Pippin appears to have plenty of distraction for himself, but it looks as though he's planning to use the opportunity to give Merry a lot more to do as well...plots within plots... Taliska? Sounds interesting... Author Reply: Pippin needs to take care of his Big Folk, else they'd waste away from lack of food! I'm sure he'll be making Faramir eat extra at lunch to make up for it. ;) Most conspiracies are complicated; ill-thought ones doubly so. Pippin's ploy has already accomplished getting Frodo out of the house and meeting people, if Merry stopped to noticed. That he could get Merry and Sam distracted as well is even better - and letting them all be distracted with the prank war is a good way of keeping them from figuring out what Pippin has done! Never underestimate a Took! I have yet to read much of the appendices, so I rely heavily on Stories of Arda for these little bits of info and history. It's fun trying to fit them into the story.

Pippin was dismayed to see that there was still food left on the plate. He eyed Faramir critically for fatigue or dizziness, or any other telltale signs that would point to a lack of nutrition. Those are the little hobbitty details I love. :) Author Reply: The hobbits need to take care of their Big Folk; they so often fail to consider things like the importance of a hearty first breakfast. ;)

Lots of interesting things in the house. I think this was a good idea that Pippin had. So far, Frodo seems to be enjoying himself. Author Reply: And note that Pippin's plan has already accomplished what Merry's prank has yet to put into action: getting Frodo out of the house and meeting people. :D That Took is sharper than people give him credit for, not that he ever asks for the credit, of course.
