A signal fire to draw those who wander into the spell, perhaps? And there HAS been a breeze in that still place. Intriguing.

Ah, Faramir's going hunting! You illustrate the dichotomy between Faramir the Thinker and Faramir the Man of Action here; he's making the necessary command decisions and preparing to go out into danger...

Author Reply: I kept going back to Beregond's statement in the books that Faramir is bolder than most men think. That was kind of the driving force behidn this chapter: What would a bold man do that might be a little bolder than others are expecting? And how would he go about it in a clever fashion? That was the main reason an entire chapter became devoted to how Faramir convinced himself and others to head for the swamps.

My heart always leaps when I see you have started a new story.
I am loving this one. Trying to figure out this mystery is fun...though, I'm not very successful. I have a feeling that the ending will be completely different that what I expected. All the more the fun. The suspense you have created is palpable.
I'm also glad to read that you will be finishing 'During a Journey in the Dark'.

Peace,
Beverly

Author Reply: Hey Beverly,

I'm so glad you're enjoying the story! As for the mystery...well, it gets a little twisted and convoluted. So if you don't follow it, that's probably my fault. ;) And thank you for your words about suspense in this story. That's something I struggle with, so I'm grateful you feel that suspense is alive and intact. I was hoping it would be. Thank you again and I hope you continue to enjoy!

I am sensing so much more to this story than you are revealing!!! I wonder what will happen in the next 3 chapters. I also love your long chapters, this way each update does not feel hollow and unsatisfying :) I really like your characterizations of Faramir and Legolas, not many Faramir fics out there.

As for your other stories, I would love to know the endings of many of them, I really hope you'll get them up someday, but your ratio of complete stories to incomplete is pretty good, so I won't worry too much. I just hope you'll keep writing and not disappear without warning like many great ff authors :)

All the best!

Author Reply: I'm so glad you like the long chapters because I've never figured out how to write short chapters. ;) Far too long-winded for that. And I'm thrilled you're enjoying the Faramir and Legolas characterizations. I think they would have found much in common with one another and become very good friends. That's just me, though. Thank you for your review!

Well, Faramir can be very manipulative. If you are going to be in politics, then there is not other way. I have been thinking, what does he fears? Fire for sure, no a big mystery there. The other thing that he will fear, I believe, is become his Father, because his madness, but in denying his Father, he is rejecting all the good things that Denethor did, he was a good Steward and held Gondor safe for a long time, enough time for Aragorn to claim his Kingdom. In fact, I always thought that Gondor did much better that the Northern Kingdoms only because the Stewards. So, it was unjust to forget all about his hardwork because Sauron defeted him at the end, after years of struggle and afflicted with so much grief.
Ok, I just got carry away, you can see that I love this story. I will wait for more updates and try not to speculate too much.

Author Reply: No, get carried away all you want. You're pretty much right on track. My congratulations! Keep up the great detective work!

I hope you liked manipulative!Faramir. He was fun to write, in any case, and I figure he can play the political games along with the best of them. He is Denethor's son, after all. And I love your thoughts on the Northern Kingdom vs the Southern Kingdom. The Stewards really did make a big difference. Thanks for the review!
