| But Mithrandir had a mighty imagination to think up people who gave gifts to others on their birthdays! LOL!!! That is what I thought about Tolkien when I read about this special custom for the very first time ;-) Thank you for this sweet little story. I enjoyed it a great deal! I didn't really think of that part until I got near the end of the story--I was just imagining Faramir helping Gandalf to plant little Hildibrand's gift. | |

| Cute. Faramir's reaction to hobbits giving gifts is hilarious. If my housemates were not sleeping, I would be roaring. As it is, I can only make a muffled chuckling, sneezing sort of sound. One question, would not Faramir eating with Mithrandir make it's way to Denethor's ears anyways? Surely the Steward had an intelligence network. ~Eruherdiriel Author Reply: It's kid logic. Children like the world to be a certain way, and getting gifts on their birthday seems to be like a law of nature to them, LOL! It's more than likely that it would if anyone recognized them. But Faramir is not particularly dressed in any way that would set him apart from any other child of the upper circles, and at this time Gandalf would not be very recognizable to the average citizen--I think they are managing to fly under Denethor's radar for the time being. It's not like nowadays when anyone of any note at all is instantly noticed from having his/her picture plastered all over the media. Although Faramir, being an honest child, is likely to answer truthfully if he's asked directly what he did all day. | |

| What a sweet story. That was a joy to read. I've also been enjoying the the stories about the Old Took's children when I've seen them on the e-mail group. It's great when two people's worlds can meet so nicely. Author Reply: Thank you, dear! I'm so glad to know you enjoyed it--I always hope my friends have as much fun reading my stories as I do writing them. Kaylee's adorable series about the children of Gerontius has been delightful! | What a sweet story! I wish this time together was put into the Red Book, so this is a delight to have your version of it. I would hang out around books myself all the time if I could. Love Faramir. It was fun to imagine what he might have been like, and what his relationship with Gandalf might have been. And I see Gandalf as a sort of bridge between Frodo and Faramir, both of whom loved him. | |
