| In fact, though you carry the alphabet along its merry way, this telling of the letter i is not merry. It is sad in the telling and the remembering. Inspiring. The tale of sorrow is brilliantly told even in the midst of the letterings. Incredible. Author Reply: Isildur should not be remembered solely for his failure to destroy the Ring while he could, after all. I have always felt he deserved more honor than he often gets. | |

How are you planning on fitting 26 letters into 25 days? Author Reply: Thanks--hard to find enough J words to do things with, right? There are only four J entries in the Encyclopedia of Arda, one of the Jaco, an ancestor of Folco Boffin in the lesser known family trees found in The People of Middle Earth. As for Z? It may prove a summary as has been done before! Heh! | |

| Ah, the Jewels of Feanor, indeed a justly chosen J! Justice for the Jewels, yes indeed...but the Silmarilli could have done so much good if only they had been surrendered. Yet, Eru drew straight with crooked lines, as they say, and a much greater good came from their withholding in the end. (Minor quibble: Nolofinwe, Arafinwe and their children did *not* swear the Oath of Feanor, though Nolofinwe was held by his earlier, separate oath to follow where Feanaro led. Nolofinwe's children - chiefly Findecano - went because of their closeness to Feanaro's children, and Arafinwe went because his children insisted on going. He turned back when Mandos spoke their Doom) Author Reply: Well, I DID point out that not all of the Noldor followed him, but didn't want to go off on Arfinwe's divergence here. One of the best of the Noldor he proved! Feanor became so obsessed there toward the end, although Melkor's constant poking his nose into everything must have caused him to become justifiably paranoid. | |

| What an epic tale, beautifully told. Author Reply: One of the most tragic stories in the whole of the Silmarillion, although Turin's tale ranks right up there, too. Thank you so, Shirebound. | |
