| I'm falling behind! Aak! :-P Super sad.... The story of the fall of Numenor gave me chills the first time I read it -- there is so much there which could apply equally to us today... Of course, I suppose you can do that w a lot of Tolkien, if you know where to look... Author Reply: I so agree, PSW. Tolkien was a student of human behavior as well as medieval languages and literature, after all. | |

| That was a very hard punishment from the Powers! This is clearly influenced by themes from the Bible. After all, the Professor was a Christian (like me). Author Reply: Oh, yes. a terrible punishments. And much of what Tolkien wrote was so influenced by Biblical themes. I love his Creation with Music, and can see it alongside the two creation stories included within the Bible. | |

| And...Now I'm reminded of my B2MEM story about Tar-Miriel of Numenor and the Fall. *shivers and shudders at the thought of those Seas engulfing her* Author Reply: Oh, yes--a terrible, terrible image Tolkien has left us with. Was she seeking escape or to offer herself as the sacrifice for the safety of her land or people, or only trying to see better what was going on, or to pray in the sacred precincts? So much to contemplate! | |
