Sons of Fellowship  by Conquistadora 11 Review(s)

Did Legolas mean his fiancée who sailed after the orcs' attack the fairest? Does he feel sea longing? Awesome chapter as usual :)

And now we get Gimli's point of view. I like how you show us how all the characters think and feel.

I love how they joke together...
"If they could only get by together without hissing and spitting at every turn", "you are a daffodil" and the "I am glad I am not you" at the end of the chapter made me laugh...
It shows how well they get along that Legolas doesn't take offense at it even if he doesn't understand it. And that Gimli didn't say it to be insulting, but that it was a sensible conclusion of his musings.

I absolutely love your Legolas for both his humility and his confidence. He knows what he is worth, and he doesn't need the worship of others in order to know it. He just...is, and he is content with that.

I hope Gimli will work up the nerve to ask Legolas more about his past!

Awwwwww...that was so awesome. Gimli always serves to shine a different light on things which I adore. It's his dwarvishness I suppose. ;) Thinking things from, in my opinion, a hilarious point of view. I am just dying to see what's going to happen between him and Thranduil... MWAHAHAHAHA!! That's going to be very interesting. :D

I think it's just a stitch that he likes Galadriel. I mean, I feel sorry for him that he does; but still it's just...fun to play around with and read about. :) Now my brain might just not be working right now, but who was it that Legolas was thinking about that helped him settle down his dislike between the Wood and the Mountain? (love that by the way. *wink* Wood and the Mountain...)

Again, rocking job on Legolas!

Madam Coriel,

Again, I love where this fic is going.

The humility you perceive in Legolas is evident in everything. You can see that he wasn't raised to tower above others, or rely on others to do his own menial chores. I thought having him save the maid a bit of trouble was a nice touch.

Also, I love the bit of humor in this chapter. Mind, it's not fall-off-the-chair-laughing humor. It's just enough to make you snort, but not take you away from the generally dramatic feel of the story.

I enjoyed Gimli's take on the way Legolas acts, as well. I hope there will be a lot of character reflections on Legolas's behavior.

One last thing: I'm sensing that this fic will turn into a journey fairly soon. That means horses. I know I'm taking a huge liberty (because you might be an expert), but if you ever have any questions or need info on our equine friends, I'm your girl. (Because I know how much everything you do depends on research).

Your Humble Servant,

Rochwen

Actually this bit was inspired by the way my dad leaves hotels, and as an airline captain he gets to see a lot of them. He reminds me of Legolas in more ways than one. :)

Ah, far from an expert! But we did have horses for two short years, and I learned a lot. So, I think I can handle the basics alright, but if I ever have a tough question I'll remember you. ;)

Legolas' and Gimli's talk in this chapter was so in-character that I chuckled as I would reading them in the Books.
You make things very interesting by adding those insights. Like Legolas wearing his hair down for the funeral or Thranduil disaproving of truelly breaking a horse.

I'll be reading more tomorrow, I hope.

Ah, now! This is great! I love your Gimli. His comparison between Legolas and a daffodil was priceless. The conversation was a delight. I enjoyed the banter between them very much.
Your vocabulary in this story is very original. I had never come across the word 'taurine' before. Bull-like I presume. Very appropriate for a Dwarf.
There were some nice little touches in this chapter to show what a kind and considerate person Legolas is - sorting out the bed and blessing the room as he leaves for example. He is very thoughtful. Not in the slightest bit arrogant as you might superficially expect an Elf Prince to be. But as you have made quite clear, Legolas would be the very last person to make a fuss over his title.
Thank you for this chapter. I always enjoy Gimli and Legolas in conversation.

Yay! Trying to bend my elvish thoughts in a dwarvish direction has proved interesting, to say the least.
New word: "taurine ~ of, relating to, or resembling a bull". Of the same catatory as feline, canine, bovine, etc. Ooo, I hope I never have to use that last on anyone. :)
Legolas sorting the bed sheets is very much like what my dad does in hotels. Yes, I think Thranduil did a top-notch job raising him. :)

I loved this chapter. You said you have an affinity doing conversations, and it really shows. As I said before, I get such a feeling of calm, when I read your chapters. There is no hustle and bustle about them.

Legolas and Gimli are so good together. I also loved Legolas getting ready in his princely raiment. I wish we could have seen him with his hair down in the movies. (I haven't had the chance to see ROTK yet, *grumbles*, but I doubt that his hair gets loose then, either.)

Oh, good. After all, Tolkien described this whole sequence as "without haste and at peace."

No; afraid not. However, he does get a new and well-deserved touch in his very last scene. ;) Hope you don't have to wait too much longer!

The more i read of this, the more i love it.

Gimlis introspection of how little he knew of Legolas was a brilliant touch that i hadn't even thought of myself. The picture you painted of Gimli watching Legolas tidying his room before he left was very telling - Yes Legolas is undobtedly an accomplished warrior, but he's so at one with himself that it also makes him beautiful and graceful, even to Gimli(who would probably cut out his own tongue with a rusty orc blade, before admitting it out loud).

Glorfindel has twice now been responsible for Legolas' dress, and it just makes me wonder how close they are, and how he's helping Legolas to deal with all he went through during the war of the ring.

I am in love with this, and am looking forward to reading more

I could imagine Gimli making that kind of resolution. ;)
He can go on and on and on about Galadriel or the Glittering Caves or Moria, but it would seem strange to the Dwarvish mind to admit the same of Legolas, even though it might be true.

To me, Glorfindel has suggested himself as a kind of voluntary warder, a surrogate father type for Legolas in Thranduil's absence. Legolas hasn't asked him for anything (again, he doesn't want to be a bother), but if nothing else, Glorfindel vowed he would have something nice and elvish to wear away from home for the time being.

I'll try to keep it coming for you!

The conversation between Gimli and Legolas, that was funny, at least Legolas was now dwarf-friend, if I understood quenia?

Keep up the good work, I still love what I read so far.

Legolas has certainly learned a thing or two about Dwarves on this trip. It may take some fast-talking at home, but I think they'll manage. :)
