Love the friendship between Legolas and Gimli and looking forward for the first meeting Thranduil and Gimli :)

What an excellent chapter.

I am humbled...to tears. I was directed to your brilliance by my friend TithenFeredir. I will ever be grateful. What eloquent and insightful homage you pay to Professor Tolkien and all his enthralling world of Arda. Forgive me for not leaving feedback until now but I have been unable to quit reading long enough to do so. But I feel now that I must let you know how this story has touched my heart, fired my imagination, and rekindled (had it ever wavered) my passion for the quiet member of the Fellowship. I have been enamored of Legolas from my first reading 'Of the Fellowship of the Ring' and craved to know more of this enigmatic yet unassuming character. I have had to fill in my own gaps over the long years as I have read over and over the stirring tale of the destruction of the One Ring. And now finally comes one who has taken my own vision of Legolas and put it down in powerful, evocative poetry that yet has the flow of a melody and the delicacy of a loving touch.

What is more you have offered, in brief so far, a view of noble, though much maligned Thranduil that also closely parallels my own. I look forward to the chapters ahead that will expand on that view, for if Legolas is the object of my greatest affection where Canon characters are concerned, then his sire draws to a close second.

I am enjoying also the profound, if at times brief, interaction between Legolas and others in the Canon yearbook. He touches each one of them with a fair and sometimes unexpected light of wisdom, kindess, generosity and love. The building friendship between Legolas and Gimli has been handled with masterfully understated dignity, as such an unprecedented friendship deserves.

The visit to Aglarond in this chapter was as wondrous as I had hoped, and served to strengthen the bond of trust and friendship between Legolas and Gimli. And the extraordinary description of Legolas loosing his voice in a song that was both a delight to the ears and a practical solution to their dilemma, left me breathless.

Again, I am humbled as well as delighted to partake of this lovely character study. My sincere thanks for your willingness to share your insights and your enormous talent.

Thank you for such a heartfelt review! It did a great deal to encourage me when I read it. I hope you enjoy the rest of it just as much; and, yes, Thranduil does play a considerable part later on. :)

Well, Coriel, you really took my breath away with your description of Legolas singing in the caves of Aglarond. What a beautiful idea that he could harmonise with his own echoes!
There is so much in this chapter that I enjoyed, but I think my favourite moment, apart from the Elf singing, was Gimli commenting that Thranduil reminded him of his mother! Wonderful!
Another paragraph that stays vividly in my mind is Gimli watching Legolas and appreciating him in his own Dwarvish way, comparing the Elf's eyes to the diamonds twinkling in the caves. Great stuff!
You worked wonders in this chapter to show us more about the friendship between the Elf and the Dwarf, Coriel. Thank you so much.

Thanks! But you can usually thank Josh Groban for the vocals; his music always seems to work wonders for my Elf muses. (He was actually supposed to be in town a few days ago, but he came down with strep throat and so the concert never happened. Bummer, but we weren't going anyway.)
Just obeying my first instincts. Glad you liked it! :)

=) that had to be the best description of Legolas' visit to Aglarond ever!!!! =)

an invitation to Valinor...hmmm, i wonder how Gimli will react later...? Legolas singing was beautiful, i could imagine him standing there in the dark and just let the music run in my head!!!! very smart elf, using the echoes to find a way!!!! and smell!!! that's what happens when you don't have your eyes!!!
hehe...not a word...very beautiful and humourous at the same time!!! had to be one of my favourite chapters so far!!!!

As always, it's all here for your entertainment. ;) I'm really not a cave-fancier myself, but I hear ErinRua's take on the same incident was very good. I must get around to reading it one of these days. :)

I only hope you find the rest of this to be as rewarding. ^_^

What a charming depiction of the friendship of Legolas and Gimli and of the caves of Aglarond. One of the better stories of the visit there that I have read.

Having just discovered this story, I hope it continues for a while. I am enjoying it.

Update, Update, Update! BTW, are you a Seton Homeschooler? I just graduated from that program last year. Just wondering because I took Latin myself.

Author Reply:
Honestly, I'm working on it! :)
Actually, we were with Our Lady of the Rosary, but my sister has a friend in Seton, taking the same Latin I did. Did you ever get past the second year? Oh, boy . . . I think I'll take Spanish!

How beautiful....I just love the scene when Legolas starts to sing...! I felt like listening to a worshiphymn....! Well a singer admires always a good discribtion of a song touching someones heart!
You getting better with every chapter....keep going!

Thank you. :)
I have never had a particularly good singing voice myself, so it's fun to play with someone who does!

Aw, just delightful, especially Legolas' very own choir in the deep. I could just imagine it, so beautiful. That was wonderfully creative and just beautiful. What a great chapter!

Kudos to Legolas for that one; he suggested it. ;)
Thanks!

This was wonderful! I loved the image of Legolas singing. And Gimli's notion that Legolas would invite him to Valinor (but no, that was ridiculous) was entertaining. Legolas's awed understanding of the beauty of the caves was very well conveyed. Great job, Coriel
