Trust a Brandybuck and a Took!  by Grey Wonderer 10 Review(s)
LarnerReviewed Chapter: 14 on 5/4/2005
THREE hobbits now stuck in the pantry until Sam gets there--and not only is he going to have to let them out, he'll probably end up cleaning up the bits Pippin misses, and then will go out, get more flour, and make the cake himself, won't he? Poor Sam. And he doesn't quite make it into the story!

Author Reply: Sadly, I do believe that I write Sam less than the other three because I worry about whether or not I am doing him justice. His slightly different speech pattern always makes me wonder if I have made him sound too simple or too formal. In other words, I am a coward when it comes to Sam Gamgee. I adore the character, but I never feel as if I have quite captured him in any of my fictions. Other than Legolas, he is the fellowship character that I write the least often. I do respect him enough to know that he wouldn't let himself get locked in the pantry with Pippin. LOL

only pippin and merry would get themselves stuck in a closet. It's not very often those two really fight, but I guess they had their moments too! LOL! It's funny that when girls fight, they just get upset and won't speak to each other for a long time, but when boys fight, they knock each other senseless, and they're friends again when it's all over. Merry's size compared to Pip didn't get the best of him this time!

Author Reply: Thanks for the review and I am glad you enojoyed this. I have always thought that boys do the fighting thing better. They get it over with and go on. I figure that once in a while Merry and Pippin had a bit of an arguement. I had the scene from the extended DVD of Two Towers in mind when I wrote this, the one where they are arguing over the Ent draught.

I love these! Very well written, and oh how I wih I could come up with pranks and 'accidents' like that! These are all wonderfully done.

Author Reply: Thank you so much! I appreciate the kind words and the lovely review. Thank you for reading these and taking the time to comment.

"So, what sort of presents did you get us this year?" Pippin dares to asks Frodo. I love the lad’s nerve. I could never stay angry at him. I suspect that this little hobbit actually is my best friend, but I don’t plan to tell him that. I doubt that I have to because he probably knows.

Wonderful!! Marvelous!!

Sorry it took me so long to get around to reading these. They are such wonderfully fun and heartwarming stories. Thank you so very, very much.

Author Reply: I'm happy that you enjoyed them because I always enjoy your stories very much. Any time you want to read and have the chance is fine by me. And you aren't late at all as I just posted this one last night. LOL Thank you for all of your wonderful reviews. It really is very encouraging.

Love this story. Cheeky little Pippin, neither of them can stay mad at him for long. Great dialogue between the cousins, especially the verbal sparring between Merry and Pippin. Thank you for this fun read! :-)

Author Reply: You are most welcome and i thank you for reading and reviewing it. I doubt that anyone could have stayed mad at pippin for very long. He's just too cute and too charming.

That was great! Merry and Pippin fighting was rather comical, all the more so because I can actually relate! My closest sister and I use to fight like that, although I am proud to say we haven't in a while ;) Frodo's reaction to the predicament was funny! I couldn't help but laugh, poor guy he gets locked in a pantry with his cousins for his birthday! Thank you for the fun!

Author Reply: Yes, I think poor Frodo got caught in the middle again. I was thinking a bit of the Ent Draught scene from the extended Two Towers while writing this one. The part where Merry has taken the Ent draught and Pippin is trying to get it back from him? Thank you for reading and reviewing.

LOL, this was hilarious all the way through. From Pippin's hair pulling, to Merry sitting on Pippin, to the both of them trying to sway Frodo to their side, to all of them getting trapped. This was great, but now we need a Pippin's POV story. Maybe something where he's explaining how one of his pranks backfired or something. Keep these coming.

Author Reply: I wrote a Pippin POV for this same challenge site not too long ago, but it was Pippin and Bilbo and didn't have the Merry/Pippin theme to it so I never moved it over here. You have given me a small plot bunny here, though with the prank that backfired suggestion. Keep watching and it may turn up in the future.

epison - what were my fingers doing? Episode!

Author Reply: I do that all the time! Glad to see someone else does it too. Thanks again.

This was a lovely epison - the flour fight in the pantry. Pippin squealing and pulling hair and biting 'like a lass'. I had never thought of the potential for hair-pulling afforded by a hobbit's hairy feet before.

And then all three of them shut in the pantry, with flour everywhere, waiting in hope for the eventual arrival of rescue in the shape of Sam. So funny.

Author Reply: I imagine that having the hair on their feet pulled would be very painful indeed, but Pippin was out-sized and desperate at that point. Also, some of the arguements he must have had at home with his sisters must have taught him something useful. LOL And Sam always seems to be my rescuer for the cousins. I'm going to have to write one where they save him in some way. Thank you for reviewing.

ROFLMBO!! That fight scene was too much! "I reach up with my right hand and began to pull on his ear while hissing, "You fight like a lass." - GW LOL!! You write these cousins so perfectly; each personality complimenting the other. The ending was yet another tender moment between two best friends. Loved it! :-)

Author Reply: Thank you! I figured that having three older sister at home, Pip might know some of their fighting tactics. I also thought it would be interesting if he managed to beat Merry in a fight using those tricks since Merry doesn't have any sisters. We lasses are tougher than some might think! LOL
