Trust a Brandybuck and a Took!  by Grey Wonderer 16 Review(s)
DreamflowerReviewed Chapter: 37 on 1/23/2011
I just wanted you to know I just re-read this, and I love it just as much now as I did when you first wrote it for me! (((hugs))))

Author Reply: When I got the alert that I had a review of this series, I was baffled. (a bit like Freddy is in this story.) It's been so long since I wrote anything for this one that I thought perhaps it was a very, very, very, late notification! LOL
Anyway, I am very glad that you *still* like this one. It was a great deal of fun to write and I thank you for the plot bunny that set it in motion.

Here's to the good ole days, when the stories were plentiful and the fandom was at its height! Cheers!

I have been most remiss and beg your forgiveness. I keep missing your stories. I thought I had added you to my favorites list and notification list, but perhaps I didn't *major blushing* I shall rectify that immediately!

Wonderful!!! Marvelous!!! Stupendous!!!

Though, from watching a M*A*S*H episode, I had the feeling that they were actually getting Freddy. What I didn't anticipate was the goats ending up in Saradoc's study!! TOO GOOD!!

Author Reply: Ah, yes M*A*S*H! Loved that show. Hawkeye was so very Groucho. How could I resist?

Please don't beg. I think of you as one of my most faithful readers. I think we all miss posted stories now and then. I know I do. I am just thrilled that you stop by and read when you have the time. Just, please keep writing you stories! That's all I need, dear friend.

Glad you enjoyed this one. Dreamflower requested this 'story where Pippin and Merry get even with Freddy over past pranks' and that's how this came about.

Merry and Pippin were clever, never seen it coming...

Author Reply: Thanks for reading this. Glad you enjoyed it.

That was absolutely marvelous! Things didn't work out so well for Freddy! Poor guy all he wanted was not to be pranked and he ended up being pranked it what he thought was a safe situation! They were all against him this time, which is perhaps a bit unfair...lol! He certainly had done a good job of remaining unpranked for most of the summer too bad for him it didn't last although it certainly made for a wonderful story! I feel bad for Saradoc as well, he got caught in the middle and he obviously knew someone more than Freddy was involved! Very well thought out I don't know how you managed to think of everyone's parts and not get confused, well done! It was a great read full of plenty of laughs, thank you!

Author Reply: Thank you! I was nearly confused a few times. It all kind of hinged on each thing and so I almost lost my place a time or two. Poor Saradoc got caught in the middle of it all yet again just as he did with Merry's trick with the molassas. I guess it's hard to raise a lad like Merry and not wind up in a mess at times. LOL

LOL, Freddy finally gets his own. That prank was classic and is bound to go down in the books of pranks past. At least Frodo saw through it all, and Saradoc wasn't completely fooled. The bit about Pippin making too much sense earlier was cute, and was Pippin through this whole thing. They really knew how to play Freddy, didn't they?

Author Reply: Yes, they gave poor Freddy a taste of his own medicine. You can't play both ends against the middle and you certainly can't enjoy the pranks without winding up in the middle of one. Thanks for the review!

LOL. Mayhem!

O, GW, I have been MIA for a little bit when it comes to reviewing, but this, lol, *this* really lit up my day. Actually, my week, as I know I am going to be thinking of this for at least another one. I love the whole prank-series and the who-gets-who, who-got-who, look-out-for-who, wool-over-the-eyes atmosphere -- a web of deceit, it kind of reminds me of a mafia is a highly less, kind of cute, not at all fatal, hobbity kind of way - LoL.

There are so many pieces of this that I just adored! And this review is going to be ridiculously long as I point out all my favorite parts! (I even wrote them down when I was reading, lol, so I wouldn't forget).

Here they are: (in no particular order)

1. 'Pippin Took almost never made that much sense about anything. The lad’s mind just didn’t work in logical ways. Pippin’s thoughts usually shot out in all directions and it was like being caught in the middle of a hale storm' -LOL perfectly described. But, as we now know, highly underestimated.

2. '"You just wait! I'll show him exactly who he's dealing with when he's dealing with Peregrin Took!"' LOL Precisely Pippin in every way. Yah! You er..tell him, Pip!

3. 'Why did all of these pranks always lead to Esmeralda shouting at someone?' LoL. Poor, poor Esme. I can only imagine what kind of havoc this Summer of Mayhem has wreaked on her tempermental Tookish nerves.

4. LoL the bit about Saradoc staring so hard at Freddy that a "hole forming in his head" might be there was great. I could just see Saradoc's glower and Pippin smugly grinning behind him "complaining" about his goats, with Merry and Berilac flanking him, equally as proud.

5.'Apparently goats have little interest in freedom.' LOL. Apparently.

6. The bit when Freddy had a "fleeting desire ... pleasant thoughts right now" was quite chuckle inducing.

7. I loved how Merry called his father 'Doc', how sweet!

8. And Sara's firm end to the whole debacle at the end was priceless, I especially loved how Pippin had to be contrary. Adorable!

9. The part in the beginning with the whole web involving how Freddy really came out the victor with the box prank was wonderful, lol! Freddy really knows how to deal his cards! (Or so he thought, lol).

Anyways! What a lovely, well-thought-out, entertaining story about the lads mischevious childhoods! O, and last but certainly not least, you included Berilac! Eep! I just love him for some reason!! :) I'm so glad he was in on it too -- one day I'm going to have to bagder you into writing me a fic focusing on him! Excellent job, GW, lol how delightful! I am going to be giggling about this all day long -- and then some!

Author Reply: WOW! This is such a wonderful review. I thank you so very much and I am thrilled that you enjoyed it this much. I am also glad that you are back. I hope you are writing too. I have missed seeing your posts. I love the idea of a 'hobbit mafia' by the way. I had no idea that Berilac was a favorite of yours. I thought it a good idea to include him in the action partly because he helped Merry with the prank on Pippin. In the first story that I ever wrote I had Merry call his father Doc in an effort to sound more grown up and now I just do it naturally. Sometimes I don't even bother to explain it. LOL This is the first time I have written one of these from Fredegar's POV and so I am glad that you enjoyed it. Thank you again. You have made my head swell a bit.

I am rather surprised that the tweens-and-a-teen managed to survive quite so long before Saradoc jumped on them with both feet. And indoor goats! I would have thought Esmeralda would have been rabid at the smell of goats inside her nice clean smial.

On the other hand - what clever and evil cousins poor Freddy has. I thought he took it rather well actually, once he discovered that he had been set up. I liked Pippin trying to wangle out of the 'legal' agreement. Sharp as a tack.

I wonder if Saradoc, somewhere under his frustration, was shaking his head in anticipation of what kind of adults these will make. Such schemers.

Author Reply: I am very sure that Saradoc was shaking his head by the time the summer was over. I sort of thought of these little tales as the kind of pranks that kids play on one another at a summer camp. I am guessing that the Shire didn't have summer camp. LOL So I had a sort of gathering of lads at Brandy Hall. Pip would have to try to use the power of the Thain as he is a Took among Brandybucks. Thanks for reviewing!

This is indeed poetic justice, and for all of them. Loved the goats all over the place. Figured out that Merry and Pippin were both intent on getting Freddy in trouble, but had no idea Berilac was in on it, too. LOVELY!

Author Reply: Freddy has the satisfaction of knowing that it took three of them to set him up. LOL Glad you liked it. Thanks for the review and for reading this one.

"This document makes it known to all present that each of you attended this meeting and that each of you understand the consequences of further mayhem,”

Holy moly! This reminds me of being in the Navy! :-P LOL...you had me going throughout the entire story--I was convinced that Freddie would succeed as a freelance double agent, but towards the end I could...lol--"smell it" coming! LOL Great story!

Pippinfan

Author Reply: That's an image; a hobbit navy. It would have to be nearly all Bucklanders I suspect but Saradoc would make an excellent Captain. They could never stay out for very long though because they would run out of food. LOL
Glad you liked this and expect an email soon.

how cute.......gotta love that Pippin, wot? LOLOL

Author Reply: Pip's a real charmer even when he's up to mischief. Thanks for reviewing and I am glad that you enjoyed it!
