Beautiful--poignant as well as funny and clever. And excellent use of voice as always.

Author Reply: Thank you! I wanted to do something with the Hobbit tradition of story-telling and that was how this story came about. I am very glad that you enjoyed it!

This was so, so special!! Pippin was so very Pippin. I love your Frodo *and* Merry--Sam no less. Absolutely wonderful, G.W. Beautifully written, my heartstrings were pulled taut, and the last bit was awesome. I truly enjoyed every word of this lovely tale. Thank you. :-)

p.s. This was the story I started last night. :-)

Author Reply: By the time I read your email I had posted the second story and so I wasn't sure which one you were in the middle of. LOL Glad you enjoyed this one. I just liked the idea that Bilbo had stretched the truth in Frodo's case and I could hear Pippin telling both stories as well. Thank for for this lovely review!

I loved this. Especially, I think, the idea of Pippin keeping Bilbo's secret - and the bond it made between Frodo and Pippin.

The picture of Pippin sitting there in his new weskit, telling stories that carefully include the need for a rope to prevent the bucket braining the victim is a delightful one. As is Frodo sitting back and remembering the past while surrounded by those who love him.

Author Reply: I like Frodo and Pippin stories and there aren't as many of those as there are Merry and Pippin or Merry and Frodo. I also figured who better to pass Bilbo's story to than a Took? LOL Thanks so much for reading!

Wonderful!!!

This is just so warm and heartfelt. I love that Pippin never forgets to mention the rope, even though he gave that to Frodo's prank and left his own a disaster.

“I will take the secret to my grave,” Pippin said dramatically.

“I know you will,” I said. “But please don’t take it there any time soon."

I love that exchange between Frodo and Pippin. And I love Pip being so proud of his new waist coat.

Excellent!!!!

Author Reply: Thank you! Pip was so upset that he might have hurt his Aunt with that bucket that he just had to correct Frodo's story and I think he knew how amusing his was just the way it had happened so he enjoyed leaving it alone. LOL
As to the waistcoat, I could see Pippin being impressed with a grown-up gift. I decided that once the travelers were back from the quest, his older cousins were likely to treat him as an adult even if others sometimes forgot. I could see Pippin being very proud of that. Thanks for the lovely review!

"Bilbo also enjoyed blaming my failure on Lobelia. He liked to blame Lobelia for anything that he could and so this pleased him to have something new that he could dislike her for."

LOL! I can very well imagine that!

Not only Pippin and Bilbo, but also Frodo is a very good storyteller. Who else would have done the trick to keep young, talkative Pippin quiet for such a long time ;-)

So, Frodo didn't have a rope either? That's funny. I like it, that Pippin always mentions the rope in his version of the story, so that other lads (or lasses, who knows?) will be on the safe side.

Frodo can be sure that he will never be forgotten in the Shire. For Pippin will pass the story on to his children, and so it will be told for long times to come. And no one will ever know what really happened!

Thank you, G.W.

Author Reply: Glad you enjoyed this one and I thank you for the review. I don't think anyone who knew him could ever forget Frodo. His best friends and cousins must have thought of him every day even after he left the Shire. Glad you enjoyed Bilbo Too. I love to write Bilbo even if he is only a mention in this one!

Oh, dear--telling it from Frodo's point of view as he realizes he will soon leave has me all teary-eyed. But I love the truth as well as the story. Dear, dear Pippin, Bilbo, and Frodo! Lovely!

Author Reply: Thank you. This one was a bit of mix. I worried that I had too many time-frames spinning at once. I did want Frodo to have a fond look back as he pondered his journey onward but it is hard to write him so sad. Thanks for reading and I am glad that you enjoyed this.

hahaha! I had a feeling we'd be seeing this soon! And I knew that Pippin would be sure to include the rope in his version of the story.

“Aunt Esmeralda punished me,” Pippin sighed.

That line makes me laugh, for some reason. I can just imagine Pippin saying it...aww!

Nice job. You always tickle me!

Author Reply: I am very glad that this tickled you! I could hear Pippin saying that too while looking just a bit sulky about the whole thing. LOL Thanks for reading!

Well, at least now we know what happened to the rope. ;) That's just like Bilbo to stretch out the truth to make a story more entertaining. He's quite good at that, as I believe that much of his adventure in the Red Book is embellished here and there.

Author Reply: I think that the Took in Bilbo inspired him to make all of his stories more entertaining. That was one reason that I decided that Pippin was the one to continue embelishing this particular story. Another Took continuing the tradition. LOL Thanks for revieiwing. You should have known that I wouldn't leave you hanging about the rope. (sorry, couldn't resist a bit of a pun there.)

“It’s a fine story, Mister Frodo,” Sam says.

And so say all of us GW! This was wonderful from start to finish.

Author Reply: Thank you! So sweet of you to say so. And very sweet of you to review!

This is absolutely wonderful. Dear Bilbo for covering up Frodo's mistake, and dear Frodo for loving him so, and dear Pippin for not only keeping the secret, but perpetuating the legend and the story.

Author Reply: I think Frodo and Bilbo had a wonderful friendship as well as Frodo simply being Bilbo's heir. I also think that living with Bilbo would have been an adventure for Frodo. LOL So glad you enjoyed this one. It really should have been posted with the "Baggins!" stories but I also needed it to be after "Best Made Plans" as they go together so it wound up here. Thank you for reading and I am glad that you enjoyed it!
