All That Glisters  by Lindelea 6 Review(s)
DreamflowerReviewed Chapter: 32 on 11/25/2004
The way the healing sleep helped Ferdi reminded me of one of the stories in James Herriot's All Creatures Great and Small (or maybe one of the sequels): how he had to treat an animal that was suffering badly, but the owner did not want to put it down. He surreptitiously gave the animal a strong sedative, with the expectation it would carry it off; instead, it fell deeply asleep for a couple of days. This broke the cycle of pain, and allowed it to recover.

On a lighter note, I am enjoying the banter between Merry and Pippin as they journey to the Lake. Even though it is for the serious purpose of Merry's surgery, you can tell how happy they are to be in their beloved Strider's company once more.

Author Reply: This is a very belated reply to your review, which I just now saw, can you imagine?

Actually, if I'm remembering right, the idea came from that anecdote of James Herriot's.

It is always good to be proven right! Way to go, Hilly! And Nell too of course. It's good news and Pip can eat his cheese and biscuits in peace. I wonder if Hilly will come and bring his wife or if he will stay with Nell to see how things progress? Questions, and more questions. Good thing you've been a quick poster on this one. (Oh, wondering 'bout Pip and the sheep in your other story too. Do hope he hasn't gone and lost them all.) Anyway, on to the lake!

Author Reply: To answer your question: both (he'll stay, then go).

Have finished the research needed for the next sheep chapter (at least I hope I have) and hope to work on it over the weekend. Hoping to have time to type in the next chapter of "Glisters" over the weekend, too, but it depends on if I can get any computer time.

Thanks for commenting!

Well....I certainly hope that Ferdi didn't drink more than was good for him! I hope that things are looking up for them all! I hope Woodruff can find out what was in that draught and recreate it! wouldn't that be splendid! I also home that Hilly and Posey decide to come to the Lake anyway, it would probably do them good, in more ways than one! As always looking forward to more, thank you!

Author Reply: Happily there were only a few swallows left, though I'm not sure you can overdose on the stuff. And yes, Hilly and Posey will come to the Lake, for there is so much to hope for.

Please keep going, this is my favourite story at the present

Author Reply: Thanks! Will hope to update on the weekend or by Monday, if I can't get close to the computer over the weekend! (Lots of competition around here.)

I'm glad the golden sunshine started working quickly. Woodruff was not a happy healer.

Shame there's not much left of the magic potion. (Any relation to miruvor?) Woodruff will have to leave the Shire and go searching for Jack and the lads to find out where it came from. Any smial containing Pippin and Ferdi needs every advantage it can get!

If those travelling to the Lake ONLY KNEW!

Author Reply: *sigh* Poor Woodruff. To be a healer amongst Tooks is a tough and rocky row to hoe.

The magic potion is amazing, and the back-story will come out at the Lake.

If those travelling to the Lake ONLY KNEW they'd turn around and make a bee-line to the Shire... and then the fun and exciting "Lake" chapters would never come to pass... so it's just as well.

Thanks!

Yea! Healing all around. I love it.

Real life is looking a little brighter this morning, too. So I am glad that life and art are once again mirroring each other.

I really liked the banter at the end of the chapter. Very sweet.

Thanks for giving me something else to smile about.

Author Reply: Glad real life is better. Ours is impossibly busy at the moment, but thankfully no more trips to ER. Hoping to make an update this weekend or Monday...
