All That Glisters  by Lindelea 4 Review(s)

*Grin* I can't believe *hobbits* wouldn't think of looking in the dining hall! Fennel's really thrown off-stride not to realize that the first thing Ferdi would do is look for food! LOL!

I love the interlude with Pippin and Diamond. Pippin's concern for Merry is as strong as it ever was, even if they are not living in one another's pockets anymore, and Diamond is so sweet and careful with her husband's fears. Beautiful!

I just love the way Ferdi (MFH) is tactfully putting the new girl in the kitchen at her ease. Very clever. And just picturing him wandering in for breakfast in complete ignorance is hilarious.

Diamond and Estella must have a lot in common - if only with those two Travellers. So like Merry to keep quiet about what he knows will worry Pippin.

Author Reply: Ferdi's good at making the best of a situation. I'm reminded of the way he taught Fastred to enjoy writing, as told in "Merlin" (and yes, I'm certainly hoping my editor-friend will decide she's no longer sick of that story!).

I guess turn-about is fair play. Pippin, after all, keeps his ills quiet from Merry as well.

Thanks!

Love how Diamond and Estella had talked things out after their lads had gone to sleep. So like Merry to keep the pain a secret from Pippin and so like Pippin to sit up worried. Great chapter from one of the fastest posters on this site. Keep it coming. I look forward to each new chapter.

Author Reply: Isn't it funny? I can just see them sitting in the kitchen, sipping at their warm milk and talking quietly.

Thanks for the good words!

Some things never change, and Ferdi is one of them. Nice to see him up and about again, and nice that he's got the whole Smials in an uproar.

Pippin and Diamond are such a sweet couple. I know they are going to have their hard times, but their love is obvious. That scene between them was beautiful.

Merry is going to go through with it as soon as possible, huh? I can't blame him, but it's still going to be hard for him, and us, I think.

Looking forward to what comes next.

Author Reply: Thanks! I was worried that someone might take exception to Pippin jumping to a conclusion (as in, Diamond was keeping something from him, protecting him from knowing Merry was in pain, before she explained about meeting Estella in the kitchen the previous night), but the reasons behind that will come out in the next chapter.

You had me laughing over your comments about Ferdi. Such a quiet, unassuming fellow, and how he manages to turn things on their head!
