The Trouble With Jam  by Grey Wonderer 12 Review(s)
MarioleReviewed Chapter: 1 on 2/18/2006
This was thoroughly charming! I enjoyed each of Pippin's adventures and setbacks, and his clever problem-solving, just like Dad! I think my favorite was the bit about the word "trifle," and how Cousin Bilbo must be making it up. Just delightful from start to finish. Cheers.

Author Reply: Why thank you! I had a bit of fun writing this one. Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the lovely review!

Too cute! I love little Pippin fics! I like the end!

Author Reply: Why, thank you. I appreciate the review and I am glad that you enjoyed the ending. I almost let him get the jam, but I thought this was funnier.

How cute! Too bad we don't know if he ever got the jar open!

Author Reply: I decided to leave that in limbo for now. Maybe at some point there will be more. I never know when something is going to come back. LOL Thank you for the review!

Wonderful! Pippin getting caught by different people but never quitting! Then he only succeeded to not be able to get a jar open! I hope he managed without getting caught ;) That would be a bummer.

The whole conversation with Bilbo about a "trifle" was great! That he would want to know what the word meant in hopes of being able to use it in front of Frodo was so cute!

I liked Merry and Fatty coming into the kitchen and then Merry not caring that the cabinet was open, funny, most everyone ignored what was going on but paying attention just enough to delay Pippin's next step.

The end was the best with the serving lass finding everything and just putting it back nice and quiet with not even a word about it to anyone else! Thank you for the adventure! It was lots of fun!

Author Reply: I did think someone would notice and I figured that Pippin would be in too big of a hurry to think to clean up after himself. The serving lass wasn't sure what had happened, she just knew to clean it up before someone got into trouble.
I think lads Merry's age wouldn't care much about what shape the kitchen was in as long as there was food. I did decide that Fatty should get Pippin a bit of a bad moment by asking about the cabinet.
I love to put Bilbo in these stories but the hobbits have to be fairly young in order to use him. He fit here ad so I grabed the chance.
Thanks for the review and I am very glad that you liked it.

This is adorable! Wee young Pippin sure can be logical when it comes to getting his food. And I love how you ended it .. even once he gets the jam, he still can't get 'to' it!

Author Reply: Thank you! I figured that one of those large heavy canning jars filled with jam would not open easily for a small six-year-old. Seems I just couldn't go with the traditional ending with Pippin eating all of the jam and making a dreadful mess. I almost did, but then decided to try this. Thank you for the review, kind stranger. Come back any time.

Oh, poor Pippin! All that work and still no luck with the jam. And I loved Saradoc bolting out of the room to find him. Very funny!

Author Reply: Yes somewhere in Brandy Hall is a well-hidden jar of jam awaiting a hammer. Let us hope that Saradoc managed to save the day even though he didn't exactly know all of the details. Pleased that this gave you a laugh.

This was absolutely adorable! I loved seeing Pippin so determined, and wanting to impress Frodo with big words, and how Bilbo knew just how to deal with him. :)

Author Reply: I think Bilbo has a way with children. After all, he did prefer the company of his younger cousins while he was in the Shire. He must have picked up a trick or two along the way. Thanks for the review!

What a very enterprising Pippin. I love the way all sorts of peaople contributed to his efforts. But, just when I thought he had succeeded, the poor child was foiled by the lid!

(I somehow feel that a hammer will be an unsatisfactory solution.)

Author Reply: The hammer has the potential to turn a simple jar of jam into quite a disaster. They shouldn't put the lids on those things so tightly should they? LOL All he needed was some unsuspecting sole who would open the jar and he would have been eating jam until the jar was empty. The best laid plans...

This is so funny! If only Esmeralda had given the poor lad some jam Saradoc wouldn't have to try and prevent disaster :)

Author Reply: The fuuny part is that he did have six slices of toast covered with it. She just stopped him before the seventh. LOL You can't have too much jam. Thanks for reading.
