I love Pippin's plan here. Wonderful thought behind it, and well considered. This is definitely in keeping with the best of the Tooks.

Good thing he didn't die. Think of all the trouble he would have caused!

Clever Pippin. Of course - elect a new Thain. Let me see: who would be good at the job? Combine Master/Thain and make it Merry! Or perhaps not.

I think, if I were Regi, I would feel insulted, even if I really didn't want the job in the first place. It's one thing having your own doubts, but knowing that the one who knows you (as a worker) knows you best shares them - it would shake your confidence. And Ferdi couldn't stand the tedious parts, really. R and F would make a good Thain between them - but perhaps it would be better to keep a good Thain between them. The regency seems a good idea to me, although Farry is so young that it's not just a case of keeping the seat warm for a few years.

Maybe it's just best if Pippin gets well. He really hasn't got the time to hang around dying in office time. Get him back to work!

(Interesting that they are all prepared to hear Pippin's thoughts from Woodruff's mouth. Either they are all waiting to have a Donnybrook once Pippin has breathed his last, or they have enormous respect for and trust in the healer.)

Did Ferdi say the Tooks blamed him for Ferumbras's *death*? Don't think you've ever mentioned that before.

Had to laugh at the choices Pippin is giving them. He really is a genius. I would be most interested to hear what they would have decided had Sam not appeared with the Ent draught. And I would so love to see Pippin and Farry's final goodbyes.

This is so wonderfully full of twists and turns!! I'm loving it. And still, over all is the love of the hobbits for one another. For all the excitement in this story there is still an strong current of gentleness and stability running through it all. MEWD!!!!!

Sad but interesting chapter. Its sad to picture Pippin working all this out and presenting it to Woodruff in the long watches of the nights while he awaits the end. Interesting that he has worked things so cleverly that they can't get out of it, no matter what they may want. Pippin really is one of the most intelegent people in middle earth, no matter what anyone has said about him.

I really am glad that I know how things work out for my favorite hobbit or I'd be in tears at this point.

Looking eagerly forward to the next chapter.

Poor Folco, leading an already upset family to the wrong house! I like how you have put Woodruff into some of the stories that I already remember from some other places, it pull eveything together so nicely! I am a bit amused by it even if it is so dire at the time being.

The next chapter I didn't find nearly as amusing and very sad, it would be worse if I didn't already know things would turn out for the better. Tradition breaking to the last, I see! Rather unkind of Pippin to leave it to Woodruff to tell them his plans, very sneaky. Looking forward to more and finding out more to both of these tales!

In spite of the fact that Pippin is supposedly dying and this is supposed to be a sad and dire occasion, I was chuckling all the way through this chapter, watching him manipulate the Tooks for all he was worth, using his dying breath on them every bit as well as he'd ever used his big green eyes on Merry and Frodo.

Of course, they would *never* have allowed the third choice: I wonder though if Pip *had* died, if they would have gone for the first or the second. I suppose it would not have made much difference to Reggie and Ferdi either way, as they still would have ended up having to run things. LOL!

Thank goodness for Sam!
