Oh my, that gave me chills. What a wonderful, unlooked-for moment.

Author Reply: Thank you! It just hit me as I re-read that passage, and I had an urge to try and craft a drabble out of that scene. Difficult to squeeze so much emotion into so few words, but I'm glad it worked.

Author Reply: Oops, it was too long ago -- I thought it was in the reading, but it was actually in the listening to the BBC drama that the scene came to life. Funny, the tricks memory plays!

Oh, what marvelous imagery--stark and evocative; the terror followed by the comfort!

We were listening to the BBC LOTR and this scene just jumped out at me. I wondered about those slaves, many of them men of Gondor, and how they'd been captured, and how long they'd spent chained to oars, and what happened after...

Ah, what a shock that must have been, for the captives indeed to find themselves at last free once more, ready to row not due to fear of the whip but to fight the very ones who sparked their former captors to take them as slaves!

Author Reply: Exactly! And how amazing it must have been for them to come home, after being lost, and considered lost.
