Moments in Time  by Larner 8 Review(s)

Oh, I really love this! In just a few short drabbles you've created a character that I want to know more about. And Frodo proves himself perceptive and worthy of his name here once again.

Author Reply: Oh, yes, our beloved Frodo proves himself as perceptive as his friend Aragorn. Both are deserving of their names! (At one time Tolkien thought of "Aragorn" meaning "valourous lord.")

Thanks so, my Lady!

That was a great look at how the Rhunim and Haradrim must have felt who were taken Prisoner of War. First the shock, than the acceptance of their situation because they were treated so well, and in the end freedom. I think Aragorn achieved a lot this way – the men like this one got a pretty different impression of the ‚enemy’ than the one they had grown up with. Lovely story!

Author Reply: You don't change a person from being an enemy by continuing to act toward him as an enemy--once he's certain you're as interested in his wellbeing as much as your own, he's far more likely to see continued aggression as counterproductive at best. Glad you agree; and I'm so glad that Tolkien wrote this attitude toward the enemies once they'd laid down their weapons into Theoden, Aragorn, and Frodo.

A very nice set of drabbles! I like the progression, as he begins to realize that he does, indeed, have a new life, one that he can live in freedom instead of slavery. And the ending's quite hopeful.

Once more you've made a character I want to find out more about!

Author Reply: Thank you, Dreamflower. Marta had asked for a character from a different culture, and so I came up with a new one, with reference to a villain from The King's Commission. And perhaps one day I WILL go further with the story of Arafim.

These are great, Larner!

I would love to read more about Arafim and his new life.

And I'm always impressed by Frodo's ability to find the best solution. It's as if he knew this man for years and knew exactly what he would like to do. Wise One, indeed :)

Author Reply: And perhaps one day I'll do more with Arafim. As for Frodo--yes, he's our Wise One! Thanks!

This was just lovely.I loved Aragorn's kindness to the young prisoner of war.

Author Reply: I think that once the battle was over Aragorn was wise enough to let the battle go, and do his best to see to it that those who were enemies learned that the folk of Gondor weren't the monsters painted by Sauron. Am so glad you like this, Linda. Thanks.

And I thought you said that you couldn't write drabbles!!! :)
Another OC we want to see much more of please!

Author Reply: You'll notice I couldn't leave this at just one, Harrowcat! Heh!

Oh, very nice story indeed. What a wonderful chance he's been given to start over in a place that will accept him as a person and not as a slave! Nicely done, and happy birthday Marta!

Author Reply: Glad you like it, Radbooks! Finally wrote the story I've wanted to about a former prisoner. Am so glad folks apparently like it.

A new life indeed. What a lovely evolution of thought and skills and purpose.

Author Reply: I've been wanting to look at the new order from the POV of one of those who'd been a wounded prisoner of war, and Marta's request allowed me to indulge that. Thank you so, Shirebound!
