If I had a Hammer  by Grey Wonderer 13 Review(s)
PIppinfan1988Reviewed Chapter: 12 on 10/9/2005
I was ROTFL my butt off when I read that last bit between Sam and Pippin! Poor Sam has been Pip's intructor for five minutes and already he's stuck to the varnish--and the brush on his forehead, lol. Poor Pip---or, is that poor Sam? Just as long as Tunnelly isn't pinging on my boy, I can have at him. :-)

Loved this: "Frodo smiled. "It’s killing you that you don’t know what he’s building isn’t it?"

"I don’t care what he’s building," Merry snorted standing up."

*snicker*...go on, Merry--keep saying that! Someday you might even start to belive it! ;-)

So sorry for being late on this--I do hope you have more coming up... Thanks for sharing!

Author Reply: Oh, there's more. I've just been busy reading everyone else's stuff today. I meant to work on the next chapter but, as always on Challenge Friday, I got caught up reading the new stories.

Merry isn't fooling anyone is he? LOL

Sam has his hands full this time. It will be interesting to see how long his good nature and patience lasts, won't it?

Thanks for the review and for posting that new chapter of "Courtship"!

Poor Sam--he has his hands full with Pippin, doesn't he? First his face and then his feet! And it's just too funny! Lovely, GW!

Author Reply: Thanks! I am certainly giving Sam a hard time in this story, but at least it was Frodo who got caught with his mouth stuffed full of grapes. LOL Thanks for reading.

I went off to work giggling like a fool this morning after reading the latest chapter. Poor Sam - if only he'd been more careful about where he was putting his feet! Stuck to the boards, and a paintbrush stuck to his head - no wonder his voice is sounding a bit strained!! He's so sweet and patient with Pip, bless him.

Those dreams of Merry's are really spooky - I do hope everything is going to be alright. Poor Frodo - coping with both his cousins and a shellacked Sam!
:-))

Author Reply: I don't know who has the most to deal with in all of this, Sam or Frodo. Neither of them are having an easy time, but I do think that Sam's patient nature will be put to the test before that wheelbarrow is completed.

Merry's dreams are a bit odd. There will be more soon. Thanks for reading and for reviewing and I am very glad that this made you giggle!

Poor Sam, shellacked to the boards, lol. And poor Pippin, trying so hard to do exactly as he's told and not make a mess and not goof up, and still managing to get it wrong somehow. I know that Sam will be able to deal with this situation better than Tobias Tunnelly, but still, his poor feet won't be happy with him for a while.

I'm every bit as curious as Frodo to know why Pippin is really sleeping in the barn. :D

Author Reply: Sam is an official tutor now and I think Pippin is breaking him in proper. LOL

I should have more on Pippin's new sleeping arrangements before too long. Thanks for reading!

Oh dear! Do you know Murphy's Law: " Anything that can go wrong, WILL go wrong!"
Well, this was just another proof of it ;-)

Pippin had the best intentions, but somehow the situation got out of hand.
I must say, I admire Sam's patience, though!

Like his older cousins I'm still wondering why Pippin slept in the barn and I loved this sentence:

Frodo groaned. "I liked it so much more when Pippin simply rattled off everything that was on his mind. I miss those days."

Author Reply: For some reason, I could hear Frodo saying that. I am sure that there were thousands of times that Frodo wanted Pippin to just be quiet and so I guess this proves another saying, "Be careful what you wish for."

Pippin is the walking example of Murphy's Law in this story. Thanks for the review!

LOL! Oh, my poor little Pippin! Sam is so endlessly patient (he could teach me a thing or three about dealing with excitable lads) and Pip so earnestly wanting to please him and make them all proud of him. I can't figure yet why he won't sleep in his bed, but suspect it does have something to do with Merry's dream. Still loving it! :-)

Author Reply: Pip is having his share of troubles but now he has a very supportive and extremely patient teacher in Sam. Everyone should have someone like Sam around. There will be more about Pippin and the barn and Merry and his dreams, but first I have to get Sam out of trouble. LOL

Poor Sam and his stuck feet! Another great chapter, GW. I'm so glad this has turned into a nice long story :)

Author Reply: I'm starting to think that this is turning into a novel! LOL It just keeps getting more involved. If I'm not careful it could wind up being a trilogy. LOL Thanks for reviewing!

Pippin’s eyes lit up and he grinned at Sam. "You? You’ve agreed to keep helping me? You don’t mind? I promise to try not to injure you, Sam and I’ll do the best that I can," Pippin babbled happily.

Awwwwww! Love this, love Sam's unbelievable patience and good humor.

:D

Author Reply: Thanks! I am glad that you are enjoying this one. Sam is simply the right hobbit for the job and he is such a sweet hobbit too! I think that Pippin has the right tutor now.

It all started so well. Happy Pippin. Sanded wood. Pleased Sam. Little wheels. Fair. It couldn't last, though, could it! Despite listening to instruction, Pippin's sheer impulsiveness was bound to lead to problems - and now Sam has guck in his hair and his feet stuck to a plank. (Of course, he could have looked where he was stepping!)

Such a fun story. I've got my fingers crossed for Pippin that he manages to get this done and done well. And, actually, for Sam, that he survives the experience with his pleasant smile and good nature intact.

Author Reply: It was a good beginning, wasn't it? But the best laid plans often go astray, don't they? Sam is up to the challenge though and so if Pippin can find the turpentine and manage not to spill it before he reaches Sam with it then maybe things will go a bit more smoothly. Maybe.

So glad that you are enjoying this one and thank you for the review!

Oh dear! Pippin tries so hard to make things right but messes up anyway. I hope Sam will be all right. He certainly get his patience tested, lol.

Author Reply: Even though he is getting paid for being Pippin's tutor now, I do think that Sam will have a hard time remaining calm. I do think that if anyone can get through this without losing his temper, it would be Sam. Thanks for reading!
