*snicker*
That’s too funny.
Of course, as in their cups as Merry and Pip were, they won’t even *remember* their attempt at conversation the next day. I also love Frodo, the patient and amused older cousin, with a good deal of practice at dealing with inebriated cousins. A nice change from frail, glum post-Quest Frodo.

Author Reply: Thanks! Though I'll admit sometimes I get a hankering for well-written, glum post-Quest Frodo. (Suffering hobbits, my very guilty pleasure. I'm surprised Frodo's ghost doesn't kick my shins;o)It's good to see you back in internet land again, {{Dreamflower}}.

Oh yes...Plenty of rabid plotbunnies over there. Evil place it is. Evil, evil, evil. ;oD

This was wonderful!!! Poor Merry and Pip...Couldn't help but think of Captain Jack when Merry looked in his ale mug and asked where his ale was. But why is the ale gone? Hee!!

Wonderful, wonderful story!!

Author Reply: Yes. Yes it is;o)
Ooh, you noticed that, huh? So have I...now that you mention it. Eh, I'll just let it stay, as a sort of nod to a certain very memorable, very pickled pirate;o)Thanks for reading this!

Merry frowned. "How do we know she's a she?"

There was a pause. "Because she is," Pippin said firmly at last, with undeniable drunken logic.

You've convinced me: the White Tree is a "she"! And I like her laughter at the end of this story! She's not an Ent, nor an Ent Wife, but she's a living creature - and she did appreciate the hobbits' attempts to talk to her.

A wonderful story, thank you :)

Yes! Yes! That was exactly what I was getting at! Thank you!

I bet Nimloth's descendant is mightily amused by the antics of two decidedly drunken hobbit officers. The idea she was laughing is hilarious, and that she responded to and echoed Frodo's in a moment of lightness is wonderful.

Absolutely Darling Citrine! That could practically be cannon it was so dead on! I really enjoyed that a lot. Shirebound is a veritble fountain of Plot Bunnies from what I've seen here in Arda! What's her website?

Author Reply: *Blushing* Aw shucks, you flatter me. Here's her stories page, which should also lead you indirectly to her Shirebunnies page if you scroll down a bit. Enjoy:-) http://shirebound.tolkienshire.com/index.php

Oh, lovely! So sweet and hobbity. :D

This was priceless! Not least the thought that the young tree might only say 'Goo'!!!!! I loved her laughter - who wouldn't laugh at Merry and Pip, especially when they attempt a little Entish.

I love tipsy hobbits and obviously Frodo is used to steering his cousins about when they've over-imbibed. Good for Frodo.

Wonderful story.

That was great! I love drunken Merry and drunken Pippin. I also loved the last word from the tree. It might have talked to Sam if he'd have known the proper things to say.

Author Reply: Heh. Good theory, I never thought of that. But then again, she's just a sapling-he probably wouldn't have got much more of a response than 'Ha ha' or 'Goo?';o)
