Of Falcons and Mûmakil  by Lialathuveril 6 Review(s)

The parallel with the sirens and Lothy here was very nice indeed. I like how you incorporate legends in your stories as I mentioned in a previous review. That baddie certainly deserved it.

Author Reply: Oh yes, Razmir deserved all he got. And I really like fairytales, also how they differ in different countries, yet have fundamental parallels at the same time.

My goodness how exciting! Of course I knew just what she was up to when she ran to the water. Razmir was rather an idiot going into a pool of unknown depth wearing full armor. *sheesh*give the man a Darwin award*

And of course the Good Guys arrive in the nick of time.

The description of the fight was very well done, and held my attention--I often skim fight scenes as I find them confusing, but not this one!

Author Reply: Glad you liked the fight and I agree on Razmir. Some men just don't have the brains. Somehow all of Éomer's rivals turn into potential Darwin Award winners, don't they? Just look at Dorlas!

Not a bad scheme Lothiriel thought up there - especially considering she had very little time and not much experience. (Tormenting brothers probably helped!) The recollection that she deliberately killed Razmir will, I expect, get to her once she wakes - even though he deserved it, the first kill is probably the worst and then she saw the rest of the skirmish. But she can feel proud of herself - she upheld her family's reputation for fighting ability. Eowyn will be proud of her -(I still think cheese-knife training will come in handy.) Eomer will be protective - and Faramir will feel he's let his uncle down when it comes to protecting his daughter.

I'm glad they're safe - even if I do think it will take Eomer a few more twists of fate before he manages to carry Lothiriel off to Edoras.

Author Reply: Hello Bodkin,
a masterful summary! That's pretty much how I see it, our minds seem to run along similar lines. I will have a think on those twists of fate during the Christmas holidays. I'm having too much fun with this story to let it end in peace and harmony already.

That cheese knife seems to have made a lasting impression. Still, I am Swiss after all, I thought it would add a personal touch!

Merry X-mas! Lia

Lothiriel was brave to take him on in the water... although it did even the advantage some. And Eomer does seem to be very protective and unlikely to let her go now!

Author Reply: Hello Nilmandra,
yes, I thought the water would be the one place where she would be at an advantage using her skills and her head. After all she's not the sword-wielding sort like Éowyn.
As for Éomer, there's still a few more chapters to go and a few more messes to get into before we hear the sound of wedding bells.

Merry Christmas!

I do love this story so much.

Although Lothiriel's plan was well thought out, the end of it for her was not what she expected, and at least he had a well deserved death. Some men just do not have brains.

I also love how those two can still poke fun at one another, even when worse comes to worse. It shows a lot about them as people.

Author Reply: Hello Merenwen,
glad you enjoyed it. As I said before, Lothiriel's plans don't always work out the way she imagines they will. As for Razmir and his brother, it was a pleasure to write them out of the story this way. They deserved it!

Where Éomer is concerned, he might have to work on his compliments a bit, but at least he got the rescuing right ;-)
