| Somehow it is reassuring to know that a few Elves remain in Edhellond, and that they watch over the descendants of Mithrellas. Lovely, and sad. I am glad Denethor has finally overcome the influence of Sauron. We see the man he will one day become, unfortunately, as that influence takes its toll. | |

| Denethor certainly is a highly-strung guy. He passes judgement on almost everyone he sees, and rarely does he reconsider. Woe be unto those he does not like. Indis and Boromir and, to an extent, Listöwel, seem to be the only people he loves unreservedly. Even Faramir is fading into second-best in his father's mind. Interesting that the squires have public training. I can't imagine that it draws much of a crowd, but probably a few parents on a semi-regular basis. Author Reply: Sorry - but I based the squire practices upon my own watching of at least 10,000 basketball games for my youngest, the over 4,000 football games for the middle son and the hundreds of swim meets for my daughter. The custom of parents watching their children must have come from somewhere! LOL Trust is a very fragile commodity. He does trust Theoden, which will be a problem further along. As for Faramir - Denethor's deep distrust of wizards will cause myriad problems. | |

| I wonder who the elf was. A tall elf with shining and "golden" hair? As far as I know, most elves in the Middle Earth had black hair. Was the elf a kinsman of King Thranduil? Author Reply: I kind of thought that the elf might be Teleri - that Mithrellas was Teleri and Teleri were said to be golden haired. Also - Thranduil - whose father was Oropher who was the original 'head' of the elves at Lothlorien - was blond. So I decided that Mithrellas' heirs were blonde. But, with all elves, I think one can kind of pick the color - as so many factors and factions and intermarriages could have caused almost any color. IMHO Thanks for reading - if you don't agree - and if I get enough yucks! - I can change it! | |
