Dreamflower's Mathoms II  by Dreamflower 9 Review(s)

Frodo should let them keep one of the puppies, but find homes for the others.

This made me laugh out loud. 'Bill' reminds me so much of my fiance's and my own puppy! Well, really she's his, a guide dog, but she's my baby too. :D

Author Reply: Dogs are always special, and have a place in the hearts of those who love them.

I could have sworn I reviewed this one at the time. Silly me!

This was so delightful. Any visit to the Eucatastrophe Universe is a joy and this was particularly gorgeous. 'Bill' sounds adorable but there's always a snag...............

So Billie it is!

Author Reply: Yes, there usually is a snag. And imagine when the lads get ready to go home--I wonder will she end up at Bag End, Brandy Hall or the Great Smials?

Dreamflower, I love "Billie"! This is such a sweet little tale - thanks so much for giving us all a gift on your birthday in the wonderful hobbity tradition!!

Author Reply: You are very welcome, my dear!!

I read this one on LJ but decided to read it again here. I just love the way Frodo realizes that now that they've named it, there's no going back. Gandalf was very amusing in this too. A lovely story!

Author Reply: Thanks for the double review! I really enjoy writing Gandalf in this AU. He has a mischievous streak that he's finally got time to indulge!

Happy Birthday!

Have been reading reviews, and I too can just picture the scene in the bath. Rather reminds me of the young hobbits bathing the Giant Schnauzer--she has this six-inch hair from her half-way point on down to her toes (and a beard to match), and when she's bathed out-of-doors she has an alarming habit of breaking away and rolling on the compost pile. Compost sticks nicely to wet, long, curling (it waves when wet) hair...

Will have to work on the ending to your long-running birthday story as soon as Other People give me an hour or two all together of computer time.

Author Reply: Oh, mercy! What a picture! Yes, our dogs love to go rolling in stinky things after their baths as well. I guess it's a dog thing. (And only goes to prove that the makers of pet treats are trying to please humans, not dogs. Otherwise, instead of chicken, beef or bacon flavor, we'd have "dirty socks", "garbage" and "manure" flavored treats on the market!)

You don't have to be in a hurry to end it--I love it every time I see a new chapter--it's truly been the gift that kept on giving!

Oh, how wonderful, Dreamflower! I can so see this happening! With me it was a young hamster I'd thought originally was a male who turned out to be female instead, and with equally predictable results!

They are in for a time of it, I think! And bless our Frodo!

Author Reply: Yes, that often happens with pets.

And indeed, I think that Billie is going to be a lot of work!

Frodo is enjoying his retirement in this universe, I think...

*snicker* Frodo's right, that had to happen sooner or later. Of course they had to save her from these boys who were tormenting her. And at least they picked up a *nice* monster ;-)

I was highly amused how they tried to bathe 'him' - and that they didn't realise it was a bitch. *snicker* At least from the sons of Sam I'd expected to know the difference in gender, but they were probably way too busy to get the dog clean and to do it in secret to truly look *grin*

Thank you for the wonderful mathom! Happy Birthday to you, my dear, and many happy returns! Have a great day!

Author Reply: Yes, she's a very nice monster indeed!

Well, I think they made the automatic assumption that anything that big and dirty had to be male, and as you said--they were very busy trying to get it clean. I didn't show the scene, but trust me, it was havoc! I could just see her "passively resisting" the bath, and the four of them trying to scrub her and getting in one another's way, and...well, the less said about that, the better!

And thank you for the birthday wishes, dear!

What fun! Reminds me of the large shaggy puppy that followed Pippin "home" in Minas Tirith (in one of my stories), and proceeded to fall asleep in his lap, effectively pinning him to the floor for the duration... Perhaps Billie is one of his descendants. Large as a pony (well, mine was still a young pup with milk teeth, but he would grow, very shaggy, affectionate, sense of humour...

Author Reply: Oh, I definitely remember *THAT* story. It's just crying for a follow-up, you know...*hint*hint*
