Yesss! This was it - I knew it was either you or Bodkin. Have reread In the West just recently and it reminded me of this one, but I just couldn't place it! Thanks for reminding me, daw...and it is still just as good as the first time I read it (I'm so glad Beliond was reunited with his family - the little references to them throughout your other stories were always so sad).

Linda

Author Reply: Thank you, Linda. The idea of Beliond watching the boy die was awful for me. I was glad to bring him back.

Ah, what a nice story! I like Lalorn! It was very nice to see him talking to Legolas. I guess Legolas had always been curious to meet Beliond's son.

Author Reply: Thanks, Idhreniel. I've felt bad about Beliond's son for a while now and enjoyed the chance to bring him on stage and reunite him with his father. He's a good kid.

oh that was sweet. I'm glad that this story featured Beliond and his son Lalorn, seeing that he (lalorn) was only ever mentioned before now.

Author Reply: Thanks, Sofia. It was fun trying to guess what Beliond's son might have been like. I think Beliond sees him again in Legolas.

You didn't have me fooled for a second - you write Beliond too well for me not to recognise him as the father.

It's a wonderful idea to have Beliond's son meet his 'other son' in Aman. It would be interesting to compare experiences - I think (and get the impression from your fic) that Beliond would ask a lot of his son. Legolas has had his share of Beliond's tart tongue, but it's not quite the same when he's not his father. (And Legolas' father, I think, has a bit of a soft spot for his youngest.) Of course, some of Beliond's gruffness comes from the loss of his wife and son, so he would be a bit less wary of his feelings at the time of this story.

Author Reply: I laughed when I read your comment about Beliond revealing himself. I think I feel complimented, even though I didn't fool you. :-)

Beliond is a lot of fun to write. His voice is so distinctive. I think being his on would not have been easy. He makes Legolas flinch sometimes, but Legolas is more or less an adult when he meets him and expects to get his fatherly approval elsewhere.

I hated thinking about the state the poor guy must have been in when this boy died at Dagorlad. Thranduil did a good thing when he gave Legolas into his care.

Very Nice!!

Always wondered abouth Beliond and his son and thier relationship with each other, and is very welcome to know they meet up later.

And to see Legolas and his son together could be interesting combination...

Author Reply: Glad you liked it, Pipinheart. I've always wanted to know more about Beliond's family too and this gave me a chance to find out.

Just wanted to add my two cents to what has already been said. ;) Another special gift, not just for Perellth, but all your readers. Very exciting and humorous. I like the emotional ending very much.

Author Reply: Thanks, Redheredh. When I made up the bodyguard characters, I never dreamed that readers would take to them the way they have. It makes me very happy that Beliond is getting back what he lost all those years ago.

well my goodness daw I was so excited when I finally got internet service back (I have been with out service for too long) I see a few stories from you. I loved them all! This one was wonderful the only complant I have is I wanted more! Thank you Daw!

Author Reply: No internet service? The thought makes me twitch!

I'm glad you liked the stories. Thanks for letting me know.

Well Beliond being a father. He doesn't seem like the type of father that hugs his son. But he shows he loves him in other ways, like by taking him camping and giving him the bow. Beliond has always come off to me as the hard core elf who doesn't display his feelings.
I also really like the ending with Legolas and Lalorn waiting for the ship. The revelation that Lalorn is about to see his father again was great.
I look forward to reading more. Happy writing!

Author Reply: I suspect Beliond might have been hard to live with, but he did love his son. It made me feel good to reunite them.

Glad you liked it, moonshine. Thanks for the review.

And now we have some closure. It didn't make sense until the end, for Legolas didn't meet his keeper until he was a warrior. Good to know Lalorn would like Legolas, they are so much alike.

Author Reply: I knew readers would remember Legolas's first unpleasant meeting with Beliond! I just shut my eyes and pretended I could fool them anyway. :-)

I've always felt terrible about Beliond losing his wife and son. It was good to be able to give them back.
