Bound by Duty  by Lady Bluejay 7 Review(s)
LarnerReviewed Chapter: 1 on 1/24/2007
Have started this three times, only to be interrupted each time.

A marvelous beginning, although of course you have my curiosity stirred as to why Eomer is sleeping in his study, what happened along the beach in Dol Amroth when she was seventeen, and what happened to the soldier she loved at sixteen.

A small problem with punctuation and our favorite bugaboo--homonyms; but the story is engaging and realistic.

Author Reply: I am afraid you will not find out why Eomer is sleeping in his study until the end - Chapter 20. The fate of the soldier will be revealed in Ch 2, and what happened on the beach comes in about Ch 8.

Sorry about the punctuation and the homonyms- at least two people have read this through for me, but I will give it another go -- it's something I have problems with.

Hope you make the end!LBJ

Okay something made me go back and read the first chapter (it's good by the way) which made remember the very first scene (which I had completely fogotten).

What's Eomer doing sleeping in his study? Everything was going so well!

Yes... I know you can't say, but now I am worried and concerned.

Author Reply: You are right - I am not going to tell you! Perhaps I had better put a reminder at the end of the penultimate chapter to remind everybody! This was only going to be five or six chapters but I got carried away. The last one's written though - so I know why! LBJ

Ah! This one is to be an arranged marriage scenario. I look forward to seeing this play out!

I like Lothiriel with a cold - and a realisation that Gondor is full of people she can't (or wouldn't want to) marry. Sensible of her! And I'd like to learn why she goes all funny at the thought of letting her hair loose.

Sensible, too, to know that, having run Belfalas, she can't sit back and play second fiddle to her brother's wife. But it is a big decision to go off to Rohan and be wife to its king. Not the same, either, as going off to Rohan to take charge of running Edoras - she is putting herself into the hands of a stranger.

Still. He's a tall, blond stranger with a good sense of responsibility. Hopefully they will both adjust to the situation.

Author Reply: Hi Bodkin,

You will find out, of course - but not till almost the end. You say - 'she is putting herself into the hands of a stranger' - how right you are - that is just what I wish to get across. Thanks for the time you take to review. LBJ

Back again. This looks as promising as the rest. I really enjoy all the little details like dresses and hair things that I know nothing about, drawing me right into the room. The allusion is another great point of this story and your writing in general.

Off and running.

Author Reply: Hi Inglor,

There will be a lot more about dresses to please you! And I also cant help the allusions - they often make a good starting point.LBJ

What a riveting start to your new story,LBJ! I was so happy to see a new story from you--and I *never* tire of your Eomer/Lothiriel epics.

I laughed at Lothiriel's maid, warning her of all doom and gloom if she took one step out into the cold! It reminded me of the medieval healers who prohibited royalty from bathing more that once a year in case they invited 'bad humours'.Lothiriel is made of stronger stuff, I believe :D

I'm really looking forward to reading more of this,LBJ.Eomer must know that Lothiriel is unhappy and I'd love to see him forget his duty to his people for a while and care for her.

Can't wait for more!

Ali.

Author Reply: Lothiriel is very strong - inspite of the tears in the opening scene. You can be rest assured that Eomer will perform his duties admirably! LBJ
