Neath Anor, Ithil, and Gil  by Larner 11 Review(s)

I love this story! I think it's neat that Yavanna had the idea that God (or Eru, as He was called in Middle-earth) should create hobbits, and that they should become her own special charges as the Ents already are.

You know, I have already copied this story onto a Word document to save on my computer. In the process, I took the liberty of capitalizing the first letter of every pronoun in your story pertaining to Eru that you didn't already capitalize. Is that all right?

So now we know how the Hobbits came to be :)
Why am I not surprised that Olórin was the one to inspire Yavanna? It really fits, considering he was the one who in the end became friends with this new race.

Author Reply: Yes, now we know! And who better to inspire even Yavanna than Olorin, the Valar's Jack-of-all-trades? And of course he would in time come to be the one of the Istari who studied these creatures! Heh!

What a beautiful idea!

Author Reply: Am so very glad you think so, Linda. Thank you!

"And this imagining of yours pleases me greatly, as does your desire not to appear greedy, but still to share the seeds that you have conceived of within the rich world of your thought. Will you trust me with these seeds, to see them planted within the proper place, in the proper soil for their beginnings, and then to see them moved when the time is right to even richer soil?"

So we have another to thank for sub-creating hobbits, not just the professor - who would be a sub-sub creator? :) - but Yavanna as well. I love the idea of God asking for permission and her trust that He would take care of these 'seeds' as well as she would.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Oh, indeed, Antane--and I do believe that ever the Father would seek to speak to each of His children in terms they would best resonate to! Thank you so!

What a lovely account of the origins of Hobbits. It feels like a lost passage from the Simariilion.Yes,I believe this!

Author Reply: I'm so glad you do, although it doesn't quite feel Silm-like to me. Thanks you so, Linda.

A beautiful beginning for the race of hobbits.

I particularly liked the fact that the idea of hobbits came to Yavanna while speaking with Olorin. Very fitting!

Author Reply: Oh, I'm so glad you approve. And who else to inspire her than our beloved Olorin, right? Thank you so very much!

*grin* A very nice spin on this!

It seems so clear to me that of all the Valar, hobbits are the closest to Yavanna in nature-- imagine her delight when she finally sees the fruit of her thought in reality! Delightful! I'm glad I inspired you to this, and I hope we will see more on this theme from you!

Author Reply: I've always felt that the Hobbits, as well as the Ents, were particularly Yavanna's children, with Hobbits being as focused on tilled lands as the Ents are of the trees and woods. She must have indeed been very delighted when she found them living within Middle Earth in the early years of the Third Age, a sweet mixture of the best of the other three homonid races.

Thanks for the inspiration. As to how much more I might write in this theme--that remains to be seen. Am TRYING to write the next chapter of "Or Perchance" at the moment, and these little ones keep interrupting!

And thanks so!

"One who can draw tenderness from others, bringing out the best in those who care for him.”

This is truly lovely. What a wonderful, tender, thoughtful beginning for our beloved small ones.

Author Reply: I fear I anthropomorphized poor Yavanna terribly in this one--Heh! But I do believe only she might have thought of such a creature as a Hobbit as yet another of the humanoid races of the Children of Iluvatar.

Am so glad you like it, Shirebound. Thank you.
