Lord Námo's Yule Gift  by Fiondil 14 Review(s)
Kaylee ArafinwielReviewed Chapter: 1 on 12/1/2014
Atya,

I sent Pearl here but didn't review it myself? *facepalm* It's a very good thing that your latest Elf Academy chapter sent me back here then (and besides, it's nearly enough Yule :) )

I'm glad Merry and Pippin were there to keep Lord Namo, the Maiar and Turgon company!! The passage of Time as it runs within and without Mandos is most interesting; it's always been a source of fascination for me. It seems to me that Time doesn't really seem to pass at all to Elves, "all is a timeless Now", I think you said in Elf, Interrupted once, but the Mortals seem to have some semblance of Time, even if it's severely distorted. Most interesting!

Tye-melin, and a joyous Ringare to you - may this month, and especially Yule, be merry and bright. Or should that be Merry and Pippin? *cheeky grin*

Kaylee

Author Reply: Well, better late than never, right? LOL! Anyway, I'm sure Námo appreciated the company of the two hobbits even if Turgon wasn't aware of it. It stands to reason that time would run differently in Mandos than in the outside world and that those who abide there would experience it differently to some degree based on their own time sense, since Elves view time differently than Mortals do.

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed this little story, Kaylee. And thanks for the review. It's much appreciated. May this coming Yule be merry and bright for you as well. Tye-melin.

This is brilliant. You wrote the hobbits very well, and I loved all the comments from the other Valar. Thank you!

Author Reply: Hello Isilarma. I'm gald you enjoyed this. Thanks for letting me know. I really appreciate it.

This was a marvelous story, Fiondil!!

I was sent to it by Kaylee, who said to let you know. I'm so glad she did. I will admit to rarely wandering far from the realm of hobbit-centric writers and would not have thought to check out your stories. I shall have to go read some of your other ones now :-)

I write Hobbit stories with most featuring Merry and Pippin. Your handling of them is spot on.

Author Reply: Hi Pearl. I'm glad Kaylee told you about this story. I don't write Hobbits per se unless they just happen to be part of the plot. Merry and Pippin are fun to write about, though, and I just couldn't resist seeing how the Lord of Mandos handled them (or not *grin*). Thanks for letting me know how much you enjoyed this. I appreciate it.

Hi Fiondil, I do like Namo's way with Hobbits, they can be like irrepressible but very loving children. They do need squashing firmly on occasion though!
By the way I thought people crumpled, bread crumbles :<)!
Lynda

Author Reply: Thanks Lynda. I'm glad you enjoyed this little tale. I'll have to double check on this, as I'm sure my beta told me the same thing. *grin*

I'm quite sure that the Halls of Mandos were never the same after Merry and Pippin left!

Thank goodness those four had each other to lean on while they await the coming of Aragorn.

I like the fact that you had the two hobbits die within hours of each other. Somehow I think that's how they would have wanted it. Closer than brothers they were.

Slowly I'm making my way through your stories - and yet again you provided me with another delightful tale.

Author Reply: I'm sure everyone from Námo on down breathed sighs of relief when those two finally left. LOL

I thought it wouldn't be half as fun if only one of them showed up in Mandos, so I had them die close together in time.

Glad you enjoyed this story. Thanks for reviewing.

Your description of Mandos is so realistic! If all this is real, I wouldn't have mind death!

Author Reply: Hi sprite! Glad you liked this this story and that you find Mandos to be realistic. That's what I was aiming for. And I personally wouldn't mind it being for real myself. *grin*

How too utterly delightful! I grinned my way all the way through wonderful, lovely, love-filled story.

May I make a humble suggestion? I would have read this sooner if I'd known there were hobbits involved, since I love them so. Would you consider including a list of major characters in your story summaries? (I know that some readers like to be surprised, though.)

Author Reply: I didn't include a list of characters in this one because, as you say, I like readers to be surprised sometimes, but maybe I'll go back and revise the summary just a tad. Thanks for the suggestion and I'm glad you enjoyed the story.

I read this in a 'fast food' parking lot. I'm sure anyone seeing me thought I was crazy, sitting alone in my car, laughing out loud. I really needed this story today and I cant say enough good things about it! Thank you for a wonderful story to go along with my breakfast.

Author Reply: You're welcome. I'm glad you had such an enjoyable breakfast. *grin*

Dear Namo,
Thank you for letting Fiondil share this story with us! It is a beautiful gift, one to be treasured by all of us readers, especially those of us who know what you are really like. I especially loved the part when Fiondil said that Gandalf and the other maya just laughed when you tried to put on the "wrath of Namo" act. Frightening you certainly are not. Had I been Yavanna, I would have had greenery appearing about your neck and over your head every so often throughout the entire season of Yule. Did you truly insist that the hobbits stay with Boromir and Eomir after spending Yule with you and Turgon? Somehow, I do not think you would. I am guessing that they came to love you a great deal in those first days, and that they were constantly asking if they could be with you, that they saw you as a kind of hero after that. And what a beautiful thing to do, showing them just a taste of the divine presence of God!
Again, thank you for sending this story to Fiondil, and thank you, Fiondil, for hearing and posting such a beautiful tale! As always, it was well-told, and no elf in the Hall of Fire could have done it better!
A blessed yule to you!

Author Reply: So was this review for me or for Námo? *grin*

Glad you liked the tale. I doubt even the Lord of Mandos could resist the cheerful manipulations of a hobbit, never mind two, and never mind THESE two! I'm sure Merry and Pippin have...er... "enliven" the Halls of Waiting somewhat while waiting for Aragorn to come. A blessed Yule to you, too.

It was very amusing. I love those two Hobbits and the way the acted towards Mandos was really funny - impudent and etc. It reminded me of those funny Gandalf-Hobbits interaction in the books and movies.

Thank you for writing and sharing this story, I really enjoyed it.

Author Reply: You're welcome. I am glad you enjoyed the story. This is actually the first hobbit-centric story I've yet written, preferring to write about Elves and Men instead. I wasn't sure I would be able to pull it off, but I am glad to know that I at least got these two hobbits right.
