Stirrings of Shadow  by Fiondil 4 Review(s)

How could any not recognize the Horn given to Merry? And it worked its magic on those who fought for Thengel? How wonderful!

I find myself contrasting the image of Thengel, hope restored, sitting with this horn in his lap (and so fitting the bearer of the Horn of Gondor should sound it) with that, many years later, of a worn Denethor sitting with the shards of that other horn in his own lap, so much of his own hope lost with the son who had borne it. Too bad he could not hear this one sound again, even as it heartened the folk of Rohan at his hand and as it would one day hearten those of the Shire as well!

Now--the questioning of the Umbari!

Author Reply: It is an interesting contrast between the two characters, isn't it, and not one that I consciously had in my mind when I wrote it, but certainly there are parallels. I'm glad you pointed it out, Larner. Very perceptive. We won't get to the trials immediately (there's a chapter in between) but we will learn something more about the Umbari soon enough.

Great chapter - great battle scenes! I loved Denethor's 'aplomb' at taking care of 'business' - he knows how to galvanize a group of warriors and terrify those who are his enemies... or the enemies of Thengel's.

Nicely done -

Author Reply: Thanks, Agape. I'm glad you liked Denethor in this chapter. He is, after all, the son of the Steward and a warrior. He's used to galvanizing warriors and terrifying enemies; it's in his 'job description'. *grin*

Yay! The King is back where he belongs, on his throne in Meduseld!
I thought that discription was familiar!
More please,
Lynda

Author Reply: Yes, he's finally where he belongs, though there is still much for him to do. I figured having the Horn of the Mark make an appearance at this critical juncture was apropos. *grin* Glad you enjoyed the chapter, Lynda. Thanks for letting me know.
