God of Wrath  by Katzilla 5 Review(s)

Well I enjoyed this story when I read it first some time ago. So I looked it up again and enjoyed it once more. I'm afraid I'm not very good at reviewing but I did feel the need to respond to the anonymous review to this tale that you received recently.
Your story was well written in my opinion. I particularly liked the use of the present historic tense for the primary action which provided a stark contrast to the past tense which you used for the flashback.
On the subject matter: Sex and violence are extremely important issues. Perhaps that is why some believe they should not be addressed. But perhaps the problem is that they are so often addressed badly or vicariously. Watership Down is a magnificent example (again in my opinion!) of a novel which deals with these issues in a way which does not antagonise "Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells". Maybe your robust approach can cause offence to some but it certainly does not to me. I think you handle it very well.
Well I suppose my main point is to say that you should not be discouraged by abusive reviews. Your stories are read and enjoyed even if not assiduously reviewed.
I will try to read more of the "Banishment of Eomer" even though the AU grates on this reader. Pryderi.

Author Reply: Hi Pryderi,

and sorry for the delay in answering to your wonderful review that really made my day. I don't worry too much about the kind of reviews as the anonymous reader left; it is not constructive, and if that person was to cowardly to even leave his/ her name, then he/ she is not worth wasting another thought, IMHO.

Thanks so much though for letting me know your thoughts to this - admittedly - difficult story. I can see how it may cause offence to some, even though I've tried to keep it realistic (love "Watership Down, too, btw, even if it was very violent)

I'm very curious to find out what you may think of my AU; already many thanks for trying to read it even if you don't really like to read AUs as a general rule. Perhaps it will help to motivate you when I say that even though I like to tweak events, I try to stay as close to canon as possible. My AUs are more a matter of "What if they took the left path instead of the right one?" than changing around characters or something like that.

Once again, thanks so much for the encouragement!

Wow... now THAT's a seriously sick, deranged story! Can't believe it did not get deleted!

Liked this very much! Good telling of the horror of Middle-earth in this age.

Author Reply: Hi Agape4Gondor,

and thank you for your comments. I'm in the middle of rewriting this story, and while I'm glad that you liked it the first time, I'd be most interested to see what you think of the new version. Expect it to be up until the middle of June.

Best wishes,
Katzilla

A history of violence visited on her and hers; the inability to avenge herself but yet the ability to hearten those who protect and avenge those like her who cannot avenge themselves.

I can understand her, and appreciate her feelings. A good, thoughtful look at how the world Sauron and Saruman have engineered has lead to so much grief and hardening of hearts, yet the gift of life and compassion yet manages to remain with the people.

Thanks so for the story.

Author Reply: Hello Larner,

and thanks so much for your review which made my day. I wasn't sure how this story would be received (as it is such an utterly dark piece), but especially your comments were a great encouragement. The story is currently being rewritten, and I'd be most interested to hear what you think of the new version once it's up.

Until then, best regards,
Katzilla

Loved the descriptions of the Riders returning from their battles - very realistic. Good to read things like this occasionaly - lest we forget all the blood and gore and filth there really was! LBJ

Author Reply: Hi Sidonie!

No, battle is not all about glory, is it? I suppose I truly realised that for the first time when I saw "Braveheart", where you could truly see the ugly side of it, too. And I do think that even the great heroes of J.R.R. Tolkien would have had their problems of coping with the misery they were subjected to. For that reason I really felt that the scene when Éomer finds Éowyn on the battlefield, and also the few scenes before that when the warriors walk over the Pelennor looking at the many dead and only begin to realise the extent of death, were really something which should never have cut from the theatrical version of ROTK in the first place. It gave that battle so much more depths!
