Agape's Attempts  by Agape4Gondor 3 Review(s)

Wow! So powerful! At that moment Frodo might have hated him, but he wouldn't for long. He would know it was to save him. I love Boromir thinking of both moments of offering comfort to the grieving.

Author Reply: I think a captain's job, after a battle, was to comfort and sustain his men. Boromir felt that keenly on the quest, I think. Aragorn was way too busy trying to come to terms with what was next... as was only right. Difficult time for all.

I wonder if perhaps Boromir was thinking of Faramir and what his response would be - to watch Mithrandir fall? Hmmm - plot bunny?

Oh well - thanks for reading and responding... and enjoying!

I expect him to pummel me in his anger and grief. But he holds on tightly, little hands clasping the cloth as he continues to scream...

What a touching image that is--and memorable!

Author Reply: It had to have been so difficult for Frodo. He knew he could not go to Gandalf's aid, but to stand back and watch his friend fall... Hideous. So I can see him clutching Boromir so that he doesn't push away and ultimately fall with the Wizard. Frodo's sense of purpose is so strong. He knows what he must do - but to have to watch this, the first of many farewells and sorrows. All for his beloved Shire....

Thank you for sharing the sentence that touched you!

What a thing to remember as he faces his temptation from the Ring.

Author Reply: The book definitely states that both Aragorn and Boromir stayed at the edge of the bridge, with every intent to run forward and confront the beast with Gandalf. It did not happen. But there were other confrontations... and this one, I am sure, Boromir would have wished had not happened.

It seems many things conspired to weaken this valiant warrior. I just love the man, anyhow; perhaps because of his weaknesses.

Thanks so much for responding.
