A bowl of cream within reach and a beard in the way. LOL.

The list of those who know Alqua talks is lenghtening.

Author Reply: Hi, late responding - forgive me! The Scribe was horrified at how many were learning the Cat talks... but the Cat doesn't seem to have a care in the world... at least not a care for the Scribe.... long-suffering Scribe!!!!

Oh my1 Now our brave Cat has a cuddle from Gimli! And he remains polite, even with Gimli's beard getting into his increasingly warm cream! I hope he was able to get to it before it spoiled.

I love Gimli and Legolas here - gentle, concerned, and full of love for the Hobbits and for Alqualonde.

Author Reply: Oh good grief - I'm sorry - I missed responding to a couple of your reviews... and they were soooo worthwhile. Forgive me!

Yes, cream and a hug - almost too much to bear :-)

I too loved Gimli and Legolas - perhaps, if there is a sequel, they will spend more time with the Cat.

Please, reassure the Cat that I meant no offense by the snicker! It was simply the amusing mental image of Gimli attempting to cuddle him. I don't think the Dwarf really understood cats...

Author Reply: The Cat forgives the snicker. He too had to stifle a laugh. The Dwarf did not even hold him correctly, but what could the Cat do but be gracious?

LOL
I do believe that a certain dwarf is nearly as disruptive as a certain hobbit! Oh, Gimli! Priceless!
I love how he and Legolas came to be of help and the cat was very polite indeed to let Gimli keep him from his cream.

Author Reply: LOL - I think you're right about the Dwarf... at least this one! I love that Tolkien has this Dwarf proud and strong and feisty... The Cat, and Aragorn (and Pippin) will need that, later in the story!

Another lovely chapter, both touching and amusing.I'm glad the cat is finding some new friends.

Author Reply: The Cat was desperately in need of friends who were 'removed' as it were from the events in Minas Tirith... and who, he felt, were trustworthy.

Thanks for the review!

I think Alqua is a bit too much like his former master - he easily assumes the worst and is quick to take affront. If he had given himself time I'm sure he would have understood why Dol Amroth's flag flew over the Citadel and not been so concerned. But, I think he is starting to learn not to be so hasty in those regards as he was already loath to doubt Aragorn's intentions.

I love how you have Alqua relating to Gimli in particular :-)

Well Done!

Author Reply: He lived with the Steward of Gondor for eighteen years. The worst always came to Gondor during his lifetime; none can deny that. Taking affront... well, he bristles a lot, but his bark is worse than his bite. Though he is still reeling from Denethor's death and so many other things that I think we can cut him some slack... at least for the nonce.

He and Gimli seem to have struck up quite a friendship. I think it's all the hair????

Oh, I loved the image of gruff Gimli trying to snuggle the little kitty...ahem...Cat!

I can see that it would be an affront to Alqualonde's dignity, but he was right to be polite; the Dwarf was only trying to help, and probably had no experience of Cats of Alqualonde's caliber. *snicker*

And of course, there's no hiding things from an Elf. But his secret's no secret anymore...

I think that he will soon be reassured about the way things will be done in Minas Tirith.

Author Reply: I know the Cat already respects Aragorn and that is a huge thing for any relationship....

As for the Cat's dignity - he is court-born and knows to stifle his own discomfort so as not to humiliate another. Especially someone whom he knows is a friend of the king's! Not particularly wise to upset the king.

I love the 'caliber' line - the Cat thanks you for noting his 'high' lineage. Though he is hoping the snicker doesn't mean otherwise? In fact, he threatens if the snicker meant what he thinks it means.... The scribe ducks!

More--pleasant--shocks for the kitty to absorb as he comes to terms with the new order. Wonderful!

Author Reply: Thanks, Larner. I hadn't thought the Cat would do much more than 'see' the Elf and the Dwarf in meetings - so this little moment in the inn was a surprise to the scribe too!

Glad you are enjoying this!

Oh, so very grand! I love this! Our kitty unbending to two more folk...an elf and a dwarf no less. I hope he eventually got to drink the cream. :D Can't wait for the next chapter. Hugs, Neilia

Author Reply: The scribe already has decided that the cream was not drinkable... but you know cats - they lick their own fur, for goodness sake! So I'm sure, warm or cold, full of Gimli's hairs or not, he drank it....

Thanks, as always, for the hugs!

“We are your friends, for Boromir was ours. Does that not make us like unto kin?”

How lovely and gentle. Alqua surely needs friends as the foundation of his world shakes and settles.

Author Reply: Shaken but settling is right, shirebound. But so much more to come in such a little time... life is hurtling by the little thing and the scribes heart goes out to him. Don't tell him....
