Fiondil's Tapestry  by Fiondil 10 Review(s)

You have to wonder about the Edain, sometimes they can be all that is good and noble and sometimes so dense they can't pour sand out of a shoe with the instructions written on the bottom! Being solotary figures, as so many of Tolkiens were, it is understandable to an extent, you either get up off your duff and do the best you can or you wait for someone to show you the way, with or with out feathers!
Lynda

Author Reply: You do have to wonder about some of the Edain, don't you? *grin* When one reads Tolkien's longer redaction of Tuor's journey to Gondolin in "Unfinished Tales", one gets a sense of a rather feckless youth, at least that is how Glorfindel has Turgon describing him. *grin*

This is one of my personal favorites of my stories. I'm rather proud of the way I was able to blend Tuor's story with a 'behind-the-scenes' look at how Ulmo had to get this particular Adan off his duff and on his way. *grin*

Thanks for reading and reviewing (again), Lynda.

Hehehe! This was very funny, despite the serious content. Loved the Ulmo/Námo interaction and the petuland Osse. And Ulmo's water garden must be a marvel.

Author Reply: Hi Soledad. I'm glad you found this amusing. I thought it would be interesting to see this familiar story from a different pov, and whose better than a couple of Valar. *grin* I have no doubt that Ulmo's water garden is indeed a marvel.

Thanks for reading and reviewing.

Have been reading Of Taur and his coming to Gondolin, from Unfinished Tales and thought of this, especially the bit with the Gulls and the Swans giving Manwe grief. It is fun to see this from the other side as it were, poor Ulmo he must have been ready to give up on Taur, it does take some people a while to catch on to things. It did seem a bit weird that Namo was in charge of Osse, but I suppose the Valar must 'borrow' Maia from one another on occasion!
More please,
Lynda
Yes, I know I owe you some reviews for E.I. 2 and Shadows, will get to them when things ease up a bit, life is a little hectic at the moment!

Author Reply: Hi Lynda. I thought it would be interesting to see this story from Ulmo's POV. Reading the story in "Unfinished Tales" you get the impression that Tuor isn't quite all there. *grin* As for Námo taking charge of Ossë... that was because Námo needed to make sure that Voronwë survived the storm that Ossë had created. Námo directly intervenes when he thinks that Ossë is being unnecessarily cruel to the sailors, tormenting them in the storm before allowing them to drown.

Anyway, I look forward to reading your reviews for the other stories when you get around to it. Thanks for taking the time to review this one. I appreciate it.

I´ve just reread most of my favourite stories in your Tapestry. Thankfully I was alone, so no one could see me rolling on the floor with laughter!
I love the view behind the scenes!

Oh, I can just see Osse sticking out his tongue at Namo... somehow Osse´s behaviour reminds me of my little brother when he´s bored or trying to get attention... I´m the oldest, so when our mother is not around I´m the one who has to reprimand him and a sticking-out-the-tongue is what I usually get.
Seeing Ulmo fume about the delay was hliarious. and the birds complaining to Manwe!

Author Reply: Hi, Thalanee. I'm glad this is one of your favorite Tapestry stories. It happens to be one of mine as well. *grin* I had a lot of fun interweaving the tale of Tuor with Ulmo and Námo commenting on his journey and the "behind-the-scenes" look at what prompted it. Thanks for your review. I appreciate it.

Just reread this one too, boy, Ulmo really had Tour take the senic route didn't he, looking at the map, he would have done better to have headed south east over the Ered Wethrin and then east to Gondolin, but he had to swing by Vanyamar to pick up Turgon's tokens didn't he?
I don't think Atar is the only one to draw straight with crooked lines, some of the Valar have him beat all hollow!?
More please,
Lynda

Author Reply: Well if Ulmo had had his way Tuor would've been in Vinyamar months earlier, but then he would've missed meeting Voronwë and that meeting proved important for many people, not just Tuor. Anyway, reading the full version of the story in "Unfinished Tales" I got the impression that Tuor was a bit dense, hence the comments between Ulmo and Námo. *grin* All-in-all, though, it was fun to write the story from their POV -- sort of like seeing the story from behind the scenes, as it were.

I simply can't imagine Osse sticking his tongue out at Mandos! LoL!

Author Reply: Well here he does. *grin*

Poor Tuor. How is the poor guy to know that Ulmo is after his head in his impatience? *grin* It’s not his fault that he is not feeling the same urgency, isn’t it?

And I am so sorry for the mariners on the ship. How nasty to kill them all save one! Ossë deserves a severe talking-to about the way he played with them and frightened them.

This was an amusing look at the Valar waiting for things to unfold – and taking a hand in it. And the birds complaining to Manwë ... *lol*

Author Reply: Well as for the mariners, that's how it happened according to both the Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales... the only parts of this tale that I made up (the rest of it is all Tolkien's) was the interaction of the Valar and the 'behind-the-scenes' of the storm that Ossë brewed.

Glad you liked this one, Kitty. Thanks for letting me know.

LarnerReviewed Chapter: 27 on 7/25/2008
Ah, so that was how it came about, was it? It's been perhaps too long since I read this part of the Silmarillion; but it's alway interesting to see Eru interfering with His Valar's own schemes. And love the gulls and swans complaining about being used as signs to set this one upon the correct way! Certainly they have the right! Heh!

Author Reply: The Silmarillion actually has very little of this. You have to read Unfinished Tales to get the full story of Tuor's journey to Gondolin. Glad you liked this. Thanks for reading.

Hey, sometimes you can be too subtle, some people you have to whack upside their heads to get theit attention, maybe Tour was one of them and may be Namo was right and Atar had a finger in the pie.
I get the impression that Osse was a middle child, he is always acting out to get his brothers and Atar's attention, of course being a one time follower of Melkor must have twisted him a little!
Good one Fiondil,
More please,
Lynda

Author Reply: Yes, some people are not into subtlty... and in Tuor's case, I think Atar definitely had a hand in his meanderings.

Hey! I'm a middle child and I never acted out to get anyone's attention. If anything, I tended to hide so no one would know where I was. *lol* I think Ossë was the baby of the family, myself, and in constant need for attention.

Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

KayleeReviewed Chapter: 27 on 7/25/2008
Well, I'm glad Tuor FINALLY got on his way, lol! I wonder what Ulmo and Manwe had to say to each other about the gulls and swans when they finally got to talking. *wry grin*

And I feel sorry for all those poor fear. Was it necessary for Osse to scare them like that? I really hope Uinen DID give him a piece of her mind!!!

~Kaylee!!

Author Reply: Thanks Kaylee. I'm glad you enjoyed this story. One has to remember Ossë did hearken to Melkor at one point, so he's a bit of a wild card and has to be watched very closely. I'm sure Uinen gave him an earful or two. *grin* Thanks for reviewing.
