Elf, Interrupted: Book Two: Glorfindel's Quest  by Fiondil 14 Review(s)

This is really becoming quite nerve wracking. I can’t help but wonder why Glorfindel keeps fleeing his hröa. There seems to be so much fear in him and he doesn’t know how to handle it or where to turn to for help. He probably doesn’t even know he needs help. Yips.

Tari

Author Reply: There may be many reasons why he keeps fleeing his hröa, but I think in time he will learn to control himself and stay in one place. *grin* The Valar are as much at a loss as the rest of us about it. Hopefully, someone will figure it out eventually.

I really liked this chapter. I supposed I wouldn't enjoy them as much, if I hadn't been following Wars of the Valar.

I wondered how Glorfindel would react to Finrod's comatose body - Just as I thought he would! LOL - poor Namo.

Poor Glorfindel unravelling - I'm not the least bit surprised, and I'm glad that Finrod doesn't chastise him, but comforts him instead.

The truckload of supplies that Namo brings with him must have been terrifying - nothing like showing them that they will not be leaving the tenth dimension any time soon!!!

And I had to shudder as poor Finrod watched as Glorfindel was attacked... Yikes!

Pssst - I also liked the Flame Invincible!

Author Reply: Hi Agape. I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter so much. Glorfindel is nothing if not predictable, even in his unpredictableness. LOL And no, I don't think the truckload of supplies is all that comforting to them at this moment, though I'm sure they'll appreciate them soon enough.

I'm not sure to what you are referring when you say Glorfindel was attacked. Nothing attacked him, his fëa merely slipped out of his hröa. This is the first time Finrod has witnessed this happening although he is aware of the previous times Glorifndel 'slipped his leash'. It's one thing to be told about it but it's another to see it actually happen to someone you care for.

I'm glad you liked the Flame Imperishable. At the moment it seems to be Atar's favorite method of manifesting Himself to his Children. Thanks for reviewing.

I was so happy when I got the notice that you continued this story and then I was unable to read it immediately. At least this way I got to read the first few chapters together. But I had to go back and reread the last chapter of book 1.

Glorfindel and Finrod are in a fine fix. I have the feeling the Valar didn't know what they were invoking in having these two fight against each other. Luckily there is some higher power to shield all the children from themselves.

I hope Glorfindel will get over his shock soon or Finrod will strangle him, just because he himself doesn't know what to do.

I love the way the Valar try to cover up their own insecurity, although that is no help for the poor Eldar, who probably don't think too highly of the Valar right now. Poor Arafinwe! You are really not nice to him.

Author Reply: I'm glad you finally got a chance to get back into this tale. I'm sure the Valar had no idea what would happen when Finrod and Glorfindel fought against each other and were completely taken by surprise. Luckily, Atar was on hand to save them all from themselves. *grin*

I'm afraid Glorfindel is going to be something of a trial to Finrod and it will be an even bet who will end up strangling whom. LOL

The Valar are trying to do damage control without looking as if they haven't a clue (which they don't)... amazing how 'image' gets in the way of things sometimes, doesn't it? And Arafinwë... well, it's a real blow to him, having lost his son once and fearing he's lost him again, perhaps for good.... even when Finrod and Glorfindel return I think it will take him some time to recover his equilibrium.

"This really is not good, is it?" - To say the least for our two friends. But for us the readers? Very good indeed!

Author Reply: I'm glad you approve, harrowcat. *grin* Some readers really hate these little cliffies but it's like eating popcorn... you just can't have one. LOL Thanks for reviewing.

I should think that the 'unfinished' state of the 10th dimension would be a very malleable place, and these two would have to be *very* careful what they say or do there. I can't imagine what I would do if *pui-en-orch* were written into the laws of my own universe, lol..With this in mind, Glor's running away would have even more serious implications than in Arda proper (without Atar's intervention, a one-way ticket to nowhere) I am thinking here of the harmonics possibly involved in their song of power that landed them where they are now. Curiouser and curiouser, Fiondil... Well done! Námo is going to have such a headache from studying this, but nice to know Atar has some surprises still in store for the Valar. I can imagine Him urging them to "Keep thinking, kids...you've almost got it..."

Cat

Author Reply: I'm sure that's just what Atar is doing, wondering how many clues he's going to have to drop before the Children (all of them) figure it out. LOL And Námo is going to have more than just a headache before this is all over. I'm glad you are finding this intriguing. The answer to how they get back to Arda proper may be a bit slow in coming, but the solution will present itself eventually; it's just going to take a little time for them to sort it all out. Thanks for reviewing. I really appreciate it.

Poor Glorfindel. I certainly don't blame him for slipping his leash again -after all he has gone through during the last weeks and months it is not surprising that the stress is finally catching up with him. The idea that they are stranded in another dimension and not even the Valar know how to bring them back has to be terribly frightening.

You mean Námo would not be happy to have these two back in Mandos? I wonder why? *evil grin*

Hm, interesting. The Valar can move inanimated objects through the dimensions, but not living creatures? No wonder this proves to be such a problem! And when even Atar himself has to intervene, it has to be pretty bad (though I love the idea that the Flame Imperishable stopped Glorfindel's fëa).

I'm still wondering how they will get back. The most feasible method I can think of right now is another Song of Power - but I fear what they will do *this time* if they try that again!

Well, at least they now have proper equipment for camping. Though somehow I doubt this camping trip will be very restorative for any of them - Valar included.

A pity the review page has no footers, it would spare me to type "Can't wait for the update" every time ;-)

Author Reply: Events are indeed catching up with Glorfindel and the stress is taking its toll on the poor ellon, especially since he's still operating on the emotional level of a fourteen-year-old at times.... not a good combination right now. And poor Finrod has to be the adult in all this, and I don't think he's happy about that.

It may be that the Valar truly cannot move living creatures through the dimensions or it may be they only think they can't; they just don't want to risk trying and find out that they were wrong. Best for Glorfindel and Finrod if they figure out how to get back to Aman proper on their own. It may indeed take a song of power to do it, but that has it's own risks as well.

I'm glad you are enjoying this so far and that you are looking forward to the next chapter. I promise, it won't be long in coming. Thanks for reviewing.

This is fascinating and the whole concept is very cool! Poor Glorfy skipping out all the time. Just how powerful are Finrod and Glorfy that they have managed to do these amazing things?

Author Reply: I'm glad you find this whole concept fascinating and very cool! Finrod and Glorfindel are rather powerful elves, having learned from the Valar before they left Aman. Tolkien does talk about the 'magic' of the elves even in the Silmarillion, so obviously they did have abilities that we mortals would not have and I have tried to show that in my Elf, Interrupted series.

No--NOT good at all!

Author Reply: No, not good at all, at all.

It's almost a little cute to see the Valar all so confused. They certainly don't know how to deal with all of these situations! They may know how to get Glorfy back, but not necessarily how to keep him there. Great chapter!

Author Reply: Yes, the Valar are rather clueless here but hopefully things will work out for the best. Thanks for reviewing. I'm glad you liked the chapter.

Oh, dear. Even here it can happen to poor Glorfindel. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, he hasn't changed, just his location has. He's had more than enough shocks to his hroa and fea lately, cruel author! *grin* I liked that Orome (I really like him) chased him down and I loved the 'flame imperishable' image, very nicely done.

I'm glad that Namo could bring them supplies so that they could go camping... Finrod loves camping! Seriously, I do hope they don't have to stay there too long, or that they'll at least come to some sort of peace while they're there waiting. I know that might be difficult for both of them, especially Glorfindel.

Thanks!

Author Reply: Yes, even in the tenth dimension Glorfindel is one crazy Reborn Elf, but certainly the shocks he's received in the last few months to both hröa and fëa have begun to take their toll, so it's not surprising that he's reacted as he has.

I"m glad you liked the image of the Flame Imperishable and Oromë 'hunting' after Glorfindel's fëa. And yes, Finrod loves camping, but he may not like it with Glorfindel... that may be more of a trial than he's willing to put up with. *grin* Even the best of friends can get on each other's nerves in certain situations.

Thanks for reviewing, Radbooks. I appreciate it very much.
