Elf, Interrupted: Book Two: Glorfindel's Quest  by Fiondil 11 Review(s)

I am scarred for life with the image of Glorfindel and Finrod in little doll dresses with Namo pouring tea in little toy cups. Along with a chocolate bar up my nose. Naughty Valars! Thanks for brightening up my day!

Author Reply: You're welcome. I suppose there are worst ways of being scarred for life than having that particular image burned in your memory, aren't there? *grin*

I got a wonderful birthday present today in the guise of a new chapter from you Fiondil and this lovely story! Thank you!

Poor Glorfindel. Every sentence from Námo just brings about another mystery from him and no answer. You really do have to feel sorry for him.

And now he gets to deal with Manwë. Or Manwë gets to deal with him - honestly I pity the both of them!

Love the little tea party sequence, although I'm not too sure Finrod or Glorfindel would find much humor in it!

Ces

Author Reply: Well, happy birthday! I'm glad you liked your present. *grin* You really have to feel sorry for Glorfindel. Nothing seems to be right in his world any longer. Hopefully Manwë will be able to straighten things out for him. And no, I don't think either Finrod or Glorfindel would fine the tea part sequence at all amusing, which makes it even funnier for the rest of us. *grin* Thanks for reviewing.

Wonderful chapter as usual.

Simply loved the party tea service. the image of all three sitting in too small a chairs with their knees up around their chin, had me grinning like an idiot.

Looking forward to seeing Manwe explain about Eärendil to Glorfindel.

Thanks for the update

Lyn

Author Reply: Hi, Lyn. Yeah, the tea party image was too good to pass up. LOL Glad you liked it. It shows that the Valar are quite capable of laughing at themselves, always a healthy sign. When people are unable to laugh at their own foibles, that's when you get into trouble.

We'll learn soon enough what Manwë will tell Glorfindel and Finrod but we need to take a slight detour back to Aman to see what else is happening while the two elves are languishing in the tenth dimension, but I promise I won't keep the readers waiting too long for Manwë's visit.

So the Valar are trying to get the two elve´s trust back. I guess that will be hard. But that comes from lying. You need more and more lies to cover them. They really should know better.

Can it be that this little detour in the tenth dimension is Eru´s way of telling the Valar that he don´t approve of their meddling with Glorfindel´s brain?

But I really liked the images the Valar send each other. Particularly the Tea Party.

Author Reply: The Valar never lie, nor did they lie to Glorfindel. They merely made it impossible for him to see Eärendil's Star or to want to pursue leanring more about what happened to him. As for Atar's motives in all this, I suspect that you may be more right than wrong, though only time will tell. Atar has more than one agenda going.

I'm glad you liked the Tea Party. *grin* Though I doubt either Finrod or Glorfindel would have appreciated the joke.

Oh my! Now we may get to the crux of Glorfindel's quest? Most interesting tale. Waiting as patiently as I can for the next chapter. Hugs, Neilia

Author Reply: I'm not sure if we will be getting to the crux of Glorfindel's quest right away, but the seeds of it are being planted in these early chatpers. I'm glad you're enjoying the story. Thanks.

A very good chapter... even though neither Glorfindel nor Finrod found answers to their questions... they at least might understand a little better the love of the Valar - and that is a good thing. Waiting for the next installment! :-) Thanks for continuing this, Fiondil. The first book just wasn't enough!

Author Reply: Sometimes being given the answers isn't enough... it is usually better to have to find the answers for yourself. That way, you own the answers. Hopefully, they will indeed understand a little better the love of the Valar for them even if the Valar aren't as perfect in their love as the elves would like.

And naturally the first book wasn't enough. *grin* It only told part of the story. thanks for reviewing.

Trust restored is needed, and Glorfindel does trust--just not blindly any more. Rest will help as well, of course.

Author Reply: Yes, blind trust is almost as dangerous as not trusting at all. After this Glorfindel will (hopefully) be more mature and more discerning about where he places his trust. And rest always helps in such situations. It gives the body and mind a chance to recover from the shock of revelation.

*howls with laughter...in her mind, since it's too early to wake Naneth up* Oh...dear...Valar. LITERALLY. *shakes her head* The funniest part had to be Vana's...imaginative scene. *nearly falls out of chair* Ai, Vana, whatever shall we do with you? *grins and snickers*

Ah, so Manwe's to visit our elves tomorrow? They had better be good for him!

Can't wait to see what happens next! Poor Valar having had to keep this Earendil thing from Glorfindel...and hopefully Manwe will know just what to say to make things better.

Haha, and "familiarity breeds contempt." Do you know, I never understood that phrase until just now when it was used in context. Thank you for teaching me something new! *grin*

~Kaylee!

*loyal reader still obsessively in love with her Namo and reborn elves*

Author Reply: I thought Vána's little 'scene' was quite hysterical myself. *grin* And can you just see Glorfindel dressed up in feathers? LOL

Anyway, we will see what transpires once Manwë talks to our two elves soon enough. And I'm glad I was able to teach you something new. *grin*

Thanks for reviewing.

Oh what a tangeled web we weave, when once we practice to decieve!(sp?) Something the Valar should have taken to heart. Poor Glorfindel, I can guess why the Valar did not want him to know about Erendil, bit of a shock to discover that the child you saved is flying around above your head wearing the last Silmaril. Lets hope Manwe can answer some of his questions.
Keep it coming.
Lynda

Author Reply: There is more to this than even Glorfindel suspects and we will learn some of the Valar's reasons for what they did soon enough.

Ah, so the Valar had barred Glorfindel's ability to see Eärendil and Vingilot or hear his name? That explains a lot - I had truly wondered why he never heard of him. And Atar was not happy with that? Well, that is interesting - and telling. Even if I still do not know why the Valar did that, I doubt it will do much good at the moment and wonder if it was wise at all.

Now you have me wondering if Atar brought them in the 10th dimension on purpose to lower these barriers ...

Anyway, the bantering Valar were amusing; and I have to agree that Finrod and particularly Glorfindel will probably listen better to Manwë; aside from the already mentioned reasons, I think he is too furious at Námo at the moment to listen to reason. And I can't fault Glorfindel for being so frantic after learning of this in top of all that happened lately. He truly must feel betrayed, no matter if it was for his own good (as the Valar see it?) or not.

Oh well, I can't wait for the next morning/chapter and to know what Manwë has to say to the excuse of the Valar - and how our two favourite ellyn will take it!

Author Reply: Well, Glorfindel knew of Eärendil, at least up until the destructin of Gondolin but never learned of his fate or that of Idril and Tuor. When Manwë finally does explain things to Glorfindel we will learn why the decision was made in the first place. And perhaps you are correct about Atar's motives in bringing them to the tenth dimension.

I'm glad you enjoyed the bantering among the Valar. I think it shows that in spite of everything they do indeed have great love for the Eldar in their midst and also they can laugh at themselves and not take themselves or their roles too seriously.

Unfortunately, we will be taking a couple of detours in the story before we find out just what Manwë tells Finrod and Glorfindel, as we need to see what else is happening in Aman while these two are in the tenth dimension. Never fear, though, we will return to our intrepid heroes soon enough. Thanks for reviewing.
