Elf, Interrupted: Book Two: Glorfindel's Quest  by Fiondil 14 Review(s)

I never expected it to be Irmo's tent that they painted!

Yes, quite a change for Artelemnar! Is he in love with Region? That would be ironic, since I assume he was also a participant in the kin-slaying at Doriath ... not that RL isn't ironic....

Ingil was a hoot! And I loved the Maiar audience, also Irmo’s reaction. They’ll be recounting that story -- well, forever.

'"I wish I could’ve helped paint," Veryandur said with a pout. "All I got to do that day was pull weeds"' -- They should at least let the poor elfling plant some bean seeds. Radishes show a quick result and are almost fool- or elfling-proof as well (and come in various colors for additional child-appeal).

Well, at least they left Finrod’s pavilion alone....

Now the picky-proofreader part (hey, my great-grandmother wrote English grammar texts -- it’s not my fault):

"not caring about sleeping Valië" -- Even though Estë is only one Valië, as the sentence is written, the noun should be plural (try it with some English nouns; it’s more obvious with words that are made plural by adding “s”). If you prefer a singular noun, add an article.

There's also a Region in Book 1, though a different elleth. I'm not saying there couldn't have been two ellith with the same name -- just bringing it to your attention in case you didn't realize.

Author Reply: Thanks for the grammar correction. It's sometimes hard to keep it all straight when writing in two different languages at the same time. *grin*

Region, I think, might be a common name (it translates as 'Holly') among the elves, so it's not surprising there are two ellith with that name.

I'm sure the other elflings were allowed to paint something... Lord Irmo wouldn't have wanted any jealous feelings to fester between them.

I think in the end the Maiar, Irmo and Este enjoyed the entire incident very much.

Your Reborns live their new lives to the extreme. Burning down half of the garden indeed! Can you mention that story in the next chapter? I desprately need a good laugh!

Author Reply: Well that story won't show up in the next chapter but it might be told in a later chapter, you never know. *grin*

(Tries to smother giggles)
“ …And so, a new readition was established, that any white surface within the Gardens of Lórien would be an invitation to those who dwelt therein that they might express the essence of their fëar upon it, in colors that rivaled those of the rainbow, or those of Yavanna’s flowers.” Fits your Valar-universe, doesn’t it? :-D

And Irmo did _so_ invite it, didn’t he? He did, after all pick the rainbow as his crest. BEG

Such a pity this site doesn’t support fancy fonts or multicolor graphics – I should have loved to use both in this little comment, well, people will just have to use their imaginations (which, I suppose can be lurid enough)

(Still tries to smother giggles)

Author Reply: Hi Sunny. I'm glad you liked this chapter. It was a lot of fun to write. I'm sure Irmo and Este were hoping someone would do something like what these Reborn and elflings did. *grin* Thanks for reviewing.

It seems that elflings are just like human children. The minute adults are out of the picture; they look for mischief to get into, firmly believing they will never get caught. They do not even consider the possible of the Maia being around to watch their every move.

How gracious Lord Irmo was. I’m sure his pavilion was quite beautiful. I think most of us sometimes act like children. Who wants to grow up completely anyway? Not me. And having them paint all the other pavilions along the lake will certainly keep them out of mischief for a while. (The Maia joined in. LOL)

Author Reply: Children are children whatever their race... when the adults aren't around... and of course these children aren't quite used to the idea of Maiar hanging around unclad watching everything. I don't think the Reborn think about that either.

Irmo was indeed quite gracious and probably found the entire thing amusing, except of course for the rope. *grin*

Ooh colourful painting with no artistic skill required. May I join in - pleeeeese? *Looks around bed-sit and wonders about the magnolia walls.*
Loved this Fiondil. It begs the question; Is graffitti art or merely vandalism? I suppose it depends on the viewpoint.

Author Reply: Hi harrowcat. I don't think the elves have the concept of graffitti, and they would be more artistic about it anyway. Glad you enjoyed this chapter. Thanks for letting me know.

Back again, spotted a typo, you are missing an 'n' in the 4th section, 'The three ellyn, (n)ow splattered with differant colored paints,----'.
Also in chapter 21, 4th section, shouldn't it be three elflings and not four when they are agreeing that the herbal teas thay have been given taste horrid?
Sorry to be so picky but this sort of thing bugs me, makes me want to grab a blue pencil and go in and correct it!
More please,
Lynda

Author Reply: Thanks for pointing out the typo. Not sure how that got missed. As for the elflings... you've left off Eruanna in your counting. She doesn't say anything (much) in the chapter but she is there, so it's four elflings agreeing about the herbal teas and not three.

Author Reply: Oops! My bad. You're right. It should be the three other elflings agreeing. I misread what you were saying. It's been corrected. Thanks again for your eagle-eyes. *grin*

Oh this was a great chapter. I was all ready to write some of the dark tale, saw this posted, and just giggled through the whole thing. A welcome release from the last few chapters...

And I loved Ingil's hands!

However - how am I to write dark when I'm giggling???

Author Reply: Maybe you're no longer in need of writing dark now? *grin* Glad you enjoyed this chapter. It was a fun one to write.

Aha! And obviously good fun was had by all! Heh! Wonderful entertainment for them, and I'm certain it was very therapeutic.

Author Reply: Obviously. And I'm sure it was more therapeutic than the Reborn suspect. *grin*

*laughing* That is *so* funny, meldonya!!! Ai, just the thing I needed after being sick today. I still feel sick, but at least a little bit of me is better for reading the chapter. Thank you so much for sharing! I'm glad Lord Irmo liked the idea of painting pavilions *grin* although he prefers his grass to be green, huh? At least they didn't paint it black or something, though maybe Namo would like that...*grins*

~Kaylee!

Author Reply: Oh, I don't know... I think Námo likes his grass green, too. *grin* Sorry you've been sick. I hope you are feeling better soon.
