| Argh! I thought I had reviewed this chapter... In fact, I thought I had reviewed it till Chapter 68. Oh well. But 40 chapters to catch up on... Ow. This was one hilarious chapter! You managed to make it quite humorous even when the situation called for some seriousness. Great. I wish it covered the dinner also... Oh well. I just have to read along, then. *grin* Umm. Was the waterfall there a place you featured in one of your one-shots in your Tapestry collection? Perhaps complete with the former Elflings too? Anyway, it was quite an interesting place to meet... and to think that the meeting was quite unconventional (and neither was it polite, at first). I love how Glorfindel handled the youths. Quite hilarious! I would not be laughing if I were on any of the six Elves' shoes, though. Legends springing up here and there! What Eomer experienced was dwarved by this encounter... Hee. The hunters looked so young at first, childish. It was vastly amusing. But then they seemed to see and respond to things in a much more mature manner after the revelation of Glorfindel'sname. It only added to the amusement. *grin* And poor Damrod in a shock... Well, I would, too, if I were him. Finrod was alive and well and before him and talking so casually! Although, I thought that the youths would at least be nervous about meeting Arafinwë in person; not mentioning the two crown princes. They were royalty, at least, although the hunters perhaps did not respect them as much as they did, say, Finrod. Why would it be doubtful if the other kings from Beleriand would stay and live in the Lonely Isle? Oh, by the way, I was a bit confused about something in the brothers' first encounter with the six hunters... You said that one of the Sindar in the company had spoken, but the one doing the speaking was the Noldorin leader... So which one was right, the tags or the reference? I thought "blood-brother" was "muindor"... :uncertain: Anyway, I am looking forward to the next chapter. I doubt it will be this humorous... but there are many other things to occupy me with, I am sure. *grin* - Rey Author Reply: Glad you found this chapter hilarious. Yes, the setting is the same as that in the Tapestry story. Compared to Glorfindel and Sador, the hunters are quite young, having been born in some cases at the very end of the First Age or the beginning of the Second. I'm not sure where your confusion lies. Bronweg is introducing his companions and it turns out that Damrod is the Sinda who first spoke, accusing Glorfindel of stealing their boar. Does that help? 'Muindor' is an older word for 'blood-brother'. Tolkien introduced 'hanar' and its Quenya cognate 'háno' later on and it's unclear if the latter supplants the former word. I have used the later version as being perhaps more accurate of Tolkien's intent, but I think both words are acceptable. | |

| Really, Fiondil, this first encounter of Glorfindel and Sador with the elves of Tol Eressëa was quite amusing and made me laugh a lot. The way Glorfindel treated the youngsters and how they turned from arrogant to overawed, the banter between the friends, all that was priceless. Interesting what a well-known name or two can do! Just imagining their faces when they realised just who these odd Amaneldi Elves are ... *snicker* And I remember Bronweg and Handir from the Tapestry story. It’s probably the same glade, too. Anyway, it’s true; no matter who might assume the Kingship over the Elves on Tol Eressëa at this time, it would cause problems later when the Kings of Beleriand are reborn. And the six young ellyn seem to begin to understand that things aren’t as easy as they thought. Of course, taking the hunters with them to the encampment and inviting them to dinner solves the problem who owns the boar *grin* Author Reply: Hi, Kitty. I'm glad you got a laugh over Glorfindel's 'lording over' the youngsters the way he did. Éomer would have understood exactly how those six ellyn felt right about then, with legends coming to life right and left. *grin* I'm glad you remember Bronweg and Handir and yes it is the same glade. We will be hearing more about it in a later chapter. The question of who should rule in Tol Eressëa is certainly a sticky one and I'm sure there are as many opinions about it as there are Elves on Tol Eressëa. There will be no easy solution, but certainly there will be one that will be acceptable to the majority of the people, if not everyone. | Isn´t this the same meadow you described in a tapestry story as one of the Mayar´s favourite places on the isle? Sounds like it... Those poor elves! I´m surprised non of them actually fainted! that was absolutely priceless- and since most people here think me crazy already for laughing like this there´s no reason for me to hold back (thank heaven´s I wasn´t drinking anything ;-) ) that encounter doesn´t really count as trouble... the bet is still on! | A very fun chapter - and not the dire one I was half-expecting - you do have a track record, you know!!! As for Glorfindel - I did so enjoy this meeting - I think these 'young ones' seem quite ready to listen - now that their belligerance is gone and their 'awe' is slightly diminished *g* When I stayed at a B&B in NZ about four years ago, the owner hunted boar often - a knife was the only weapon he used. He would wait until the boar came close, jump it (honestly!!!) and then skewer the thing between the eyes. He said it was the 'norm' if one wanted real sport... So I think Sador might have survived such an encounter - luckily, he didn't have to find out!!! Again - fun chapter. Author Reply: Thanks, Agape. I'm glad you found this to be a fun chapter. It was a fun chapter to write, as well. *grin* Thanks for your 'boar' story. The man has a lot of guts tackling a boar that way, sport or no sport. I don't think that the Elves would have approved of the 'sporting' nature of such a hunt, though. They would have merely hunted. I'm sure Sador would have done just fine with his knife if he had to, but, as you say, luckily he never had to find out. | |

| It is fun to watch haughty Glorfy in action! Poor Sador has much to put up with, doesn't he? I thought it was terribly funny the surprise that those cocky kids got. What was it eomer said, "Legends spring to life from the grass?" teehee That was a very fun chapter and the sneaky glorfy and co even managed to get dinner out of the whole affair, too. More, please? | Trust Glorfindel to be in trouble within five minutes of arrival... They were able to make the first contact in a really short time. I hope something positive comes from the meeting beside a good meal. It will be definitively interesting to hear the opinion of the young elves and their hope for the future. But it´s telling that their first thought and hope is that Finrod will take a role in their leadership. I really like it when they start their bantering. Author Reply: Hi, Hel. Well, with Glorfindel, 'trouble' is his middle name. *lol* I'm sure something positive will come of this first contact, as it were. These are young elves, not yet burdened with a past that can't be forgotten (or forgiven), so they will be more open to what the kings are hoping to accomplish during their Progress. And yes, it is telling that their first reaction is the hope that Finrod will become their king. He is a well-beloved legend among the elves, so it's only natural that they would want him in that role. Glad you liked their bantering. Thanks for reviewing, Hel. I appreciate it muchly. | |

| _Somebody_ is definitely having a very bad day. Here Damrod and his friends have gone hunting, and managed go find a nice, big boar – but two of those dratted Amaneldi have gone and killed the boar instead. Then he goes and picks a fight with tho blonde one – who for some peculiar reason is wearing warrion braids! Whoever heard of one of those mainlanders doing that?? And to add insult to injury, the stranger then talks to them as if they are elflings and too young to be out hunting alone. Then things unexpectedly turns worse. Much, much worse. The blonde stranger, who didn’t seem to mind that somebody was picking a fight with him, was the legendary Balrog Slayer, and is likely to be able to pound them all flat without getting his hair mussed. Then more strangers burst in on the scene, including more legends: Beleg Cúthalion and Finrod, the former King of Nargothrond. I am sure poor Damrod at that point wishes he had never got out of bed this morning. And did Glorfindel actually get out of having to drag the boar carcass back to camp? The point Finrod makes, that it would be politically unwise of him to take the kingship on Tol Eressëa is a very good point, and shows that he is quite aware of political realities. (Well, he _used_ to be a king, after all.) From hints in your fics, you paint the other Noldorin kings of Beleriand as being quite preferential towards other Noldor – and Thingol was definitely quite anti-Noldorin, except for his own kin. Neither attitude would go over well on Tol Eressëa, with the mixed population. We know from another of your fics that the one wo eventually will reign on tol Eressëa is Gil-galad – and he is in Middle-Earth, and hasn’t even died yet. I suppose that three and a half thousand years of ruling a very mixed bag of Elves in Lindon (and if the population of Lindon _remained_ as ethnically diverse throughout his realm it is clear that no particular group decided to vote with their feet, and go elsewhere) – and presumably staying on reasonably good terms with the various other Elven realms and rulers - would ensure that he would end up at the very least _respected_ by most of the groups – and would also make him a good choice as ruler for the ethnically diverse population on the island. Is Bronweg one of the elflings we seen in _Maiar Games_? The little glade with the waterfall certainly resembles the one in that story. PC update has gone well!! I actually managed to get the computer I wanted, even though I had to go almost all the way across town for it. But once I had it, setting it up went fairly painlessly. I had all my data saved, and had the software ready to install as soon as I got the computer unpacked. The worst bit was the sheer _tedium_ of waiting for safety updates to download and install. A necessary chore, though. you can’t be too paranoid around computers these days!! Author Reply: Hi, Sunny. Glad the new computer is working out better than you hoped. I love your 'summation' of the chapter. *grin* Too true... I think by the time Gil-galad is Reborn and all, the Tol Eressëans will consist primarily of those who knew him as their king during the Second Age. Many of the earlier inhabitiants of the island (the ones we are encountering in this story) will have long migrated onto the mainland as the Valar open up new lands for them per Glorfindel's discussion with the Maiar. At least that is how I envision it. Anyway, yes, this is the same Bronweg and his brother Handir from "Maiar Games". *grin* In fact, they will relate to the others the story of that fateful day in an upcoming chapter. | Hi Fiondil, I too must agree with Rhyselle's remarks, especially about the chapter seeming too short. But I know that when I was reading it, as usual I was too caught up in what was happening and when I saw the asterisks I thought oh no, there must be more, and there wasn't...but I'll get over it.*grin* I was a little surprised over Sador's suspicion of Glorfindel's motives in asking him to come along, but then I considered what happened the last time they were together (in Lórien) and decided maybe Sador had reason to be so. I'm guessing that Glorfindel was trying to make a point with the Tol Eressëans. No matter whether he is a Lord or no, a more cordial greeting and less suspicion on their part would have been prudent (and polite), even considering the boar. But then for some reason the picture that came to my mind made me laugh-a proper exchange of "mae govannen" between the parties with a dead boar in the middle-well, my sense of humor is strange at times! And yes, Sador giving away Glorfindel's identity was quite funny, as all of us could tell Glorfindel was planning carefully when to make that revelation. And Bronweg and company didn't have a chance once Finrod and Beleg showed up. Just one blow after another, so to speak! It would have been interesting, though, to see the outcome if Finrod and his party hadn't turned up when they did! Thanks Fiondil. This was most enjoyable! Joanne Author Reply: Oh dear. Everyone thinks the chapter is too short and here I was thinking it was just long enough. *lol* Well, it's really not much shorter than most of my other chapters, so I'm thinking everyone got so caught up with the what was happening that when the end came it took them by surprise. I guess that means I did something right? *grin* Anyway, I'm glad you found Glorfindel amusing, especially when it's obvious he was setting those poor ellyn up for a fall and then Sador goes and spoils his fun.
