Elf, Interrupted: Book Two: Glorfindel's Quest  by Fiondil 10 Review(s)

Gah... Sorry. Got to go do other things after this. :( I wish I could read more...

But anyway, this was quite an enjoyable chapter, with those friends reuniting with each other... Are the titbits here told by Arafinwë about Finrod after his time in Lórien included in The Findaráto Diaries, by the way?

Somehow I hoped the Tol Eressëans would choose the first out of Ingwion's two options. Dunno. Letting the Valar and the Kings of Eldamar decide for them seems... wrong, somehow. But either way, I would really like to read more about it. :) Hopefully it will all end happily!

It's interesting to see many occupations told about in this story - and these three chapters alone. You have given me many ideas. :) And your Sindarin names for them were no less interesting. (By the way, I forgot to ask: To which dialect does "Ciryatan" belong to? Sindarin? "Círdan" is Quenya, then?)

This chapter looked like a filler, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. (With enthusiasm, actually, I admit. :sheepish: I am not too fond of suspense of darkish scenes/events/sub-plots.) I would love to continue as soon as I can. :) Hopefully not too long like the pause before this. (Sorry...) See you later, then.

- Rey

Author Reply: Even filler chapters serve a purpose of moving the plot along. "Ciryatan" is Quenya; "Círdan" is Sindarin. The Quenya form is closer to the Primitive Quenya or Common Eldarin that was spoken by all the Elves before the Great Migration.

Eventually you will see what results from this Progress and how the Tol Eressëans resolve their issues, though you have quite a way to go before you get there. *grin*

Hmm...a governor with a privy council. *nods* That sounds like a good idea for now, since the kings...well, except one but I don't want to be doing his dishes *grins*...haven't been Reborn yet. I can't wait to see how that comes out!

Tye-melin Atar Fiondil!

Author Reply: I am sure many of my readers are anxious to see how all this works out, but you will just have to be patient. These things take time to work out (and to write out *grin*).

*grin* People like Finrod really have to be a nightmare for their guards. And it's probably not much of a comfort for them that he's perfectly able to defend himself. Though it seems it's in the family ;)

Poor Nestadôr got it quite bad, didn't he? And what the King said showed too clearly that he was not the only one. I just hope Pelendur listened intently and thinks about it, considering how he treated Haldir.

At least the people in Tavrobel are set on thinking how the leadership problem could be solved. If all of them were that sensible, I think it sould not be too difficult to find a solution. But we will see. With you, I've given up on easy solutions long ago ;)

Author Reply: Well, as Finrod said, at least his guards cannot complain about being bored with him around. *lol*

I think Pelendur is beginning to change his thinking where his sone is concerned, though he will not do so overnight. It will take time for him to reconcile his image of Haldir with the reality before him.

I think I have shown that even with eveyone agreeing that a solution must be found there are no easy answers as to what should be done, but we will see what solution they come up with eventually.

Hi Fiondil,

A couple of thoughts about this chapter...

I was thinking about the reaction of the guards to Finrod's actions and I was wondering if both Glorfindel and Finrod, considering their ability to detect evil, would be able to tell if someone they thought of as a friend had some malintent toward them or the group. Even were this so I don't think Elennen and company would know either of them well enough to be aware of this talent...it might make them feel a little better if they were.

And both Finrod and Glorfindel are planting seeds in the minds of these Tol Eressëans as to what forms of government might possibly work for them. Hopefully the seeds will take root.

Looking forward to whatever comes next--a feast, maybe in the next chapter? But a lot can happen during dinner!

Joanne

Author Reply: It is possible that Glorfindel and Finrod might be able to detect malintentions of others towards them or the group but so far the theory has not been tested. *grin* And the seeds are indeed being planted.

I feel really sorry for Finrod´s guards (and those of the other royalty aparently). Having someone as active and impulsive as him is shurely not easy. On the other hand they must like to suffer or why else would they do it?

Finrod sounds very happy to meet his friends again. But I´m sorry about Nestadôr and his bad welcome into his family. It must be hard to have his own wishes and past completely ignored by ones own family. No wonder that he went away in the middle of the night. But at least the kings of Aman have acknowledged the problem and try to solve it.

I wonder if the group will be as welcomed in the other two settlements when they get there.

Author Reply: The guards do not have it easy, that is for sure, but they get paid well, so they have little to complain about. *grin*

We will see how the Progress is welcomed in the other communities eventually.

A good time for such a reunion, and most interesting as they all catch up to date.

Now, back at the cloth merchant's....

Author Reply: And there are more reunions to come.....

I imagine Finrod must have been utterly maddening for the guards who were trying to keep him safe. I look forward to seeing where you take this.

Author Reply: He certainly made them earn their keep. *lol* I am glad you are still enjoying this, Aiwen, and are looking forward to future chapters. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

Setting up a unified government is a giant step in the right direction to my way of thinking. I should think it would make things easier in dealing with the different groups of Elves if they were all subject to the same laws.

Author Reply: Most likely, Tari. Of course, the trick is to come up with a form of government to which the majority of the elves can agree. We´ll see how successful they are in creating such a government later on in the story.

The poor guards. Are any of them getting grey hairs? ;-)
I am somehow reminded of a picture from 1973 (during an oil crisis – which meant among other things no use of private cars on weekends). A rather ordinary picture of an elderly gentleman paying for his tram ticket – though the woman sitting next to him looks a bit flustered. The kicker is, the elderly gentleman was King Olav on his way to go skiing.

It is a good thing that Nestadôr’s family made up with him eventually. Though unfortunately the way to that end was way too thorny – but I suppose having him sneak out of the house in the middle of the night and going to a place that _they_ probably thought was a howling wilderness was a very clear wake-up call indeed.
If any of their friends or neighbors get into the same situation – getting a reborn relative on their hands – I hope they will have taken some lessons from this, and done better.

Author Reply: Poor guards, indeed! I think I remember seeing that photo way back then. *grin* Nestadôr’s story is probably not unique among the Reborn but at least it ended happily and hopefully his family is helping others to cope with their Reborn.
