Elf, Interrupted: Book Two: Glorfindel's Quest  by Fiondil 7 Review(s)
KittyReviewed Chapter: 132 on 6/23/2010
Oh, that was cute, all the elflings curled up to Vondo! They are really sweeties.

Hm, I think Finrod and Glorfindel are right, it might have taken a bit longer, but Vondo would have run away eventually. He's a Reborn and has a tradition to uphold, after all ;) And need I to mention that I look forward to the grief he might give them together with his co-conspirators, as Aldundil so nicely put it? *grin*

Vondo is coming very close to the reason behind the attack, isn't he? They will not be able to evade that topic for long. This time they managed to distract him with Sindarin, but that will not work every time. Somehow I don't look forward to that revelation ...

Author Reply: Yeah, the elflings are a sweet bunch of kids, aren't they? *grin*

And no, they won't be able to distract Vondo from the truth for too long. He may *act* like an elfling at times, but he's not and he knows it. We'll see what solution Finrod and Co. come up with shortly.

It looks like Vondo is developing much faster than "normal" reborn. I wonder if it is the early contact with his relatives or the whole situation around him.

Finrod´s decision not to tell Vondo the whole truth about him and Selmacas and his daughter is wise. Thankfully he is easily diverted. At least at the moment. I wonder how that lasts. And how long this much needes peaceful interlude last.

Author Reply: Every Reborn develops differently and no two Reborn develop in quite the same way, which is why Námo and Irmo are often ready to tear their hair out in frustration. *grin* Possibly the earlier-than-planned interaction between Vondo and his family is a contributing factor. As to how long this much needed peaceful interlude lasts remains to be seen, but you know that it can't last for very long. *grin*

Thanks for reviewing Hel. I appreciate it.

At least he is easily distracted, and perhaps even purposely. I find I like him.

Author Reply: Yes, easily distracted, but I doubt for long. *grin* I'm glad you like Vondo. Thanks, Larner, for letting me know. I rather like him, too.

Great chapter, at last Glorfindel is in the middle of the excitement. Great distracting strategy to avoid approaching sensible subjects, SPEAK SINDARIN!!! In all fairness Vondo was the one who like children of 6 years, gets distracted easily and jumps from subject to subject. I don't see how they are going to keel Vondo from discovering the truth and more so since he is going to be in the company of other elves who know Salmacas and might tell him the truth. I actually don't think he will feel betrayed by his brother or if he does he will only feel betrayed for a small time, because I think Albundil has suffered enough and received enough punishment by having to deal with Calalindalë. I actually think at the end Vondo will find someone else worthy enough of him and be happy, whereas SHE will forever suffer, HAHAHAHAHA. What I am waiting for is the punishment of that horrible elf Salmacas, I hope NAMO comes up with something good.

Author Reply: Hello Monalex. I'm glad you liked this chapter. Vondo is indeed, on an emotional level, like a young child who is easily distracted (or in his case, perhaps it is fairer to say, willing to be distracted). They certainly won't be able to keep him in the dark for long. As for Selmacas... we'll see fairly shortly what, if anything, happens to him. Thanks for reviewing. I really appreciate it.

I loved the comparison of Glorfindel to a golden retriever! It was just so apt!! :-D

I wonder – did not any of Laurendil’s companions at least _try_ to grab him and tell him that this is Aman, and they are _not_ out hunting Orcs? Though if they had been pushed hard enough by Laurendil, I suppose they were too busy discovering pains and aches in parts of their anatomies they didn’t even know existed to spare much time to try to reason with him. (I assume Elves, too, get sore after overexertion.) Though I suspect they will make up for lost opportunities when they are rested. ;-)

Evidently Valmar has gained a new, though temporary tourist attraction. ;-)

Vondo is certainly full of surprises! I suppose Finrod and Glorfindel counted on him not knowing Sindarin, and here he comes and actually understands what they say!! (Though I wonder what his reaction is going to be when he hears the full story of what happened when he was dead...)

Author Reply: I guess a lot of people like that comparison, Sunny. It's very apt, indeed, though I suspect Glorfindel would not think so. *grin*

I doubt if any of Laurendil's companions tried to grab him and tell him to slow down. They would have all been Amanian elves without a clue about how one of Finrod's former Rangers would act. He probably even left them in the dust a bit in his hurry to catch up to Vondo.

Vondo knowing Sindarin was indeed a surprise for Finrod and Glorfindel and Laurendil. He might not have been in Beleriand for the entire time of the war but he apparently was there long enough to learn the language. It took someone to actually speak it in his presence for him to remember.

As to Vondo's reaction to the truth about his family... that remains to be seen, but we'll learn about it soon enough.

Whew! That's one disaster averted! I don't know how Vondo is going to handle finding out his intended has married his brother, on one hand he may be very angry, on the other he may be happy that his brother did marry her. I don't think he is going to be very pleased when he finds out what she has turned into and what she did to his nephew though!
I think Irmo needs to have all of his healers spend some time with the Re-born, even if they don't intend to specialise in them, a bit like a modern intern, just so they know what to expect(anything!)from them!
Poor Laurendil, he was doing what he usually did ( just had to rescue a bird, if it's not lizards, it's birds, no gophers so far!)with what was to him, a new recruit, he did not take into account that he was a Re-born and temper his expectations with that in mind.
I hope Vondo and Vorondil had fun with the Sindarin lesson and that Vondo managed to hold his own.
Lynda

Author Reply: Averted, but not for long, I'm afraid, Lynda. Eventually Vondo's going to have to be told the truth. As to how he will react to it, remains to be seen.

Laurendil is still a new apprentice so he's not had the experience of someone like Eärnur in dealing with them yet. He'll get the experience eventually, proably after his 3-year probabtionary period.

I'm sure Vondo and Vorondil had loads of fun with the Sindarin game and I'm sure Vondo did quite well, once it all started coming back.

Hi Atar Fiondil! It's Friday! And that means more EI2, right? Right :D

I have to say, this chapter was a welcome respite from the excitement for everyone, I'm sure LOL! Except perhaps Laurendil, as he got told off. I think Vondo and Glorfi will be quite the pair, and then Eru help the Valar!!! *lol* Unless Earendil stays around to put them both on short leashes.

Golden Retriever Glorfi...*saw that in reviews for last chapter* Hmm, I wonder what golden retriever would be in Sindarin? Glor-something anyway, even if not Glorfi :-p

Maybe it should be his epesse. *wicked grin*

Tye-melin,

Kaylee!!

PS: Externship evaluation today and, if I have counted my hours right, Monday is my final day!

Author Reply: I'm not sure if Glorfindel would appreciate 'Golden Retriever' as an epessë, Kaylee, though it does rather fit. *grin*

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter and found it a welcme respite from all the excitement of the last few chapters. I think everyone, including me, needed the break. *LOL*

Good luck on your externship evaluation. I'm sure you will do just fine.
