Incredibly visual...to the point where I could see Gimli working on it along through time, not just the end result! Wonderful characterization...extremely emotive, makes one think of this memorial actually still existing buried somewhere under the sands of time. Loved it!

Author Reply: I like to think that it is still there somewhere, waiting for an archeologist or a spelunker to discover it... Thanks for letting me know how much you enjoyed reading it.

Sits back in awe - I could see it!!!!

Absolutely stunning imagery............. Stunning. I think I dropped my own cup of tea.

Author Reply: :) I'm sorry you dropped your tea, but I'm very glad that you could see what Gimli wrought. :)

Thank you for this wonderful ficlet, gwathel nīn! I love Gimli in this. What a wonderful gift to the Rohirrim. That dwarf's tough exterior hides a heart of pure gold. You nailed Eomer too! Wonderful ficlet! Huggles!

Author Reply: I'm so glad that you love it... especially as I did write it for you. :) HUGS!

Charming! It's lovely to imagine Gimli and Eomer being such good friends and sharing these memories to make them more bearable.

Author Reply: I'm so pleased that this ficlet touched a chord in so many people. I hope the muse lets me write more about this friendship. There's so much Gimli/Legolas friendship fic out there, but I haven't seen any other Gimli/Eomer GEN works.

This was a really lovely story and it seems appropriate that the dwarves would be the ones to remember all those losses in such a fashion. Gimli was of course correct, far beneath the earth, such treasures endure much longer than those that are exposed to the elements and 'human' interference

Minnie

Author Reply: Thank you, Minnie, for letting me know you liked it. I always hated seeing grave stones or memorials that were so worn by weather that I couldn't read the names of those who had sacrificed all for the greater good. Gimli's gift will last until the end of Arda even if it ends up being hidden from all in time.

How marvelous! I especially love all the detail, such as the dwarves making the portals fit men and elves, and the fact that Gimli's realm was a kingdom equal to that of any other ruler.

Author Reply: Thank you, shirebound! It just didn't seem fair to me that Aragorn had his kingdom, and so did Legolas, Sam was Mayor of the Shire, Pippin was the Thain, and Merry became the Master of Buckland and yet Gimli was only "Lord of the Glittering Caves". So I decided to interpret "Lord" as a ruler instead of one who owed fealty to king or senior lord.

With Legolas coming to visit, I just can't see Gimli making him continually duck his head, and from what we saw of the glories of Moria, the Dwarves appeared to like building big!

A beautiful, beautiful story, Rhyselle! I could see the frieze and the names and feel Eomer's amazement. What a marvelous memorial.

Author Reply: I just wish that I could paint or draw what I saw in my head... I'm so pleased that you could visualize Gimli's gift to Eomer and the Riddermark.

*sigh* Oh, Rhyselle, I do like this story very much. I cannot remember ever seeing a story which focuses only on Gimli and Eomer. This is a wonderful piece of interaction between the two, showing the friendship that was bound to develop between these two warriors. I love Gimli anyway, and his gift of remembrance to Eomer is just perfect and a fitting tribute to those who fell in that horrendous battle. Well done!

linda

Author Reply: Thank you, Linda. I thought at first it would just be Gimli and Legolas with Legolas asking Gimli what his secret project was... but then the muse said "Eomer!" and it started coming together. :)

Ah! What a fantastic memorial! Marvelous!

Author Reply: It took forever, or so it seems to put into words what I saw in my head. I'm so very glad it touched you and other readers the way it has. Thank you for letting me know you liked it.
