Very Nearly The Beginning...  by Grey Wonderer 9 Review(s)
Agape4GondorReviewed Chapter: 1 on 7/15/2008
I'm going to start at the beginning, if you don't mind.... since I just found this...

I loved the phrase - 'he was merely travelling a bit.' Brought me a giggle... I smiled when Pip felt the Rabbit was his alone... and when he discovered it was Elvish... and the 'fill up my corners.' Delightful little phrases.

Author Reply: Why thank you. I am very glad you enjoyed this. I hadn't written anything for 'Errol' in a while and so I wasn't certain how this would be received. It's good to know that folks enjoyed it.

So, Errol is an Elvish rabbit? But what is his name? I liked seeing Pippin so possessive over his toy, even if he is far too old to still have one. Will Errol now be given the King’s children? How wonderful if Errol became the Rabbit of the Future King. :)

Author Reply: Thanks for reviewing this one. This part is a bit of a reprint with a few minor changes and is actually from "Freddy and The Thain's Rabbit". Thank you for reading.

I thought this was familiar as I got along in it. I love that Errol is an Elvish stuffed rabbit. It suits him, or he suits being Elvish, or it all mixed together fits well. :-)

Author Reply: Thank you for stopping by and reading.

Now don't you know it's rude to whisper? This means Arwen and Pippin will eventually have to share this intelligence with us all. They do realise this I hope.

You should blame the beta, because there is an old adage which goes, "personally, I blame Marigold". That generally covers everything.

What I find most astounding is how Errol eventually ended up in a boot sale in Wycombe and that Marigold found him and sent him to you so he could tell you about his adventures! A well-travelled rabbit indeed!

(PS So you see Marigold IS to blame! Again!)

Author Reply: I was actually surprised to find that Pippin knew how to whisper. I did think he'd be loud enough so that we might over-hear. I knew Arwen would be no help here. Elves are very good at whispering.

I wonder where that adage started? I was thinking of blame President Bush because I enjoy blaming him for everything.

I don't know how you do it, but you're right again. Marigold did *find* TBR and mail him here, didn't she? Oh, and is the adage 'blame the beta' or 'personally, I blame Marigold' because blaming the beta could put you at risk.

I thought I recognized this! And I'd love to know the name myself! Heh!

Author Reply: See, a prologue that folks aren't supposed to read and a first chapter that is a repeat! I really do need medication for something. But it's summer so a repeat or two is to be expected.

“Well?” Merry insisted.

“His name is Errol,” Pippin said looking slightly cheeky.

Young or old, I like my hobbits cheeky!

Author Reply: Me too. I can't imagine them any other way.

Oh, I remember reading this earlier! I loved it then, and even more now. If Errol was once Arwen's, and is of Elvish make, that explains a lot about his character.

Well done, GW!

Author Reply: Glad you enjoyed this little repeat portion of the story. Having been among the Elves would explain a bit about Errol. Thank you for reading!

I remembered this entire scene while I read it, and I loved it -- all over again! I do love your Errol series and I'm so glad you're updating to it.

Happy Birthday, Marigold!

p.s. my own wicked taskmaster will be screaching my name soon, so if you don't see a review soon after this one, then that means I'll back later after a day of hanging on a fanfic cliff wondering how this tale is going to come out!

Author Reply: I had planned just to post the next chapter and leave this bit out but it's been a while since Errol turned up in a story and so I thought he might need a bit of a set up before going on. Anyone stumbling in here on accident might not have a clue what was going on in the next bit.

Yes, I do hope Marigold is somewhere having a lovely birthday.

Well, this isn't a very big cliff. You can probably let go and not fall more than half a foot. I do hope the wicked taskmaster is out sick or something so you can relax.
