Somehow knowing how deeply Gandalf missed Bilbo as well seemed to help.

That is exactly what I meant by "sharing their grief". Mourning takes time, but together with others it is much easier.
And Adamanta does exactly the right thing by giving Frodo all the time he needs.

Author Reply: Yes, shared grief is always easier, and Frodo has good friends who will also miss Bilbo.

I am glad Frodo still has people around him who understand and who love him and Bilbo and let him grieve in his own way and also let him know they are there for him too.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Yes, that's exactly what I want to show.

I rejoice that he is able to heal as he does. As for Gandalf's grief--he has had to learn to let go of so many, and now he will do as he has done before, greater in the end because he has known so many mortals so closely.

Author Reply: You are right--and, in fact, anticipating the next chapter. Have you been peeking over my shoulder?
