On a Spring Morn  by Cairistiona 13 Review(s)

What a wonderful piece! A tribute to new life, and the hope and joy it brings. :-) Thanks for writing!

Author Reply: Thank you! I love thinking about those 'ordinary' moments in the lives of these characters--they couldn't *always* be fighting off orcs and evil, after all. Sometimes they had to be farmers or farriers or animal doctors. :) Glad you enjoyed this slice of an 'ordinary' day in the life of the Rangers.

This short story had so many emotions! I was chuckling at the scene with Aragorn and Halbarad teasing and wrestling after birthing the lamb...what a great friendship. Then there was intense joy at the birth of Halbarad's new daughter...she already has daddy's heart. Then extreme heartbreak when Aragorn chokes up because we know how much he yearns to have his own family with Arwen...some day!

Author Reply: Thanks, Lisa! I'm glad you enjoyed this one... it's short, but I did try to make it as rich in emotions as I could. :)

This is lovely Cairistona and a perfect beginning for Inzilbeth!

Author Reply: Thank you, harrowcat! I'm glad you enjoyed my little gift to Inzilbeth--that's the nice thing about fics as gifts: everyone can enjoy them. :) Thank you for the review!

Nothing like springtime and new lives being born. Loved Halbarad and Aragorn's tussel in the grass.

Author Reply: Thanks, Grumpy! Glad you enjoyed this!

Awww....

Halbarad immediately slapped the back of Aragorn's head. "No doom and gloom from you today. Just look at that sunshine!"

Middle-Earth psychiatry at its best!! LMAO I love it.

This was absolutely heart-warming. Thank you for sharing... lucky Inzilbeth!!

Author Reply: LOL... yes, Halbarad has his own unique, rather straightforward way of treating Aragorn's ills, whether it be a slap upside the head for mental disorders, or a slap of stinging horse balm for the physical. *grin* Glad you enjoyed this and thanks for the review!

What a deliciously happy and hopeful story. A lovely and most fitting birthday present indeed.

This is a very loving idyllic glimpse at the daily life of the Northern Dúnedain. As usual you did a great job of portraying Aragorn and Halbarad's friendship. And it was great to see them both happy and hopeful. I've always believed that in spite of all the tragedy and sadness he had witnessed in his life, and as Tolkien mentions, the sadness and grimness in his face 'because of the doom that was laid on him' Aragorn deep down, like Tolkien also mentions, was ever hopeful, and ready to perceive and enjoy like few did the beautiful and happy moments of life.

I found this story of yours a great illustration of my favourite 'yet hope dwelt ever in the depths of his heart, from which mirth would arise at times like a spring from the rock'. Beautiful description of Aragorn, beautiful story.

Author Reply: Thank you, Estelcontar! I do think we're both of the same mind about Aragorn--that despite the grim nature of much of his life, there was ever a sense of joy inside, mostly hidden by that "doom that was laid on him" (a bit like our own joy can get buried under the cares of life--only his was more extreme than hopefully any of us have to deal with). When you think about springs and how water *has* to come out, often breaking through rock to do so... Tolkien really gives a good analogy of Aragorn's inner hope and the joy that comes as a companion to hope. Much strength there, and as fun as it can be to explore his angsty side, it's as much fun to explore those times when the mirth broke through. Thanks for reading and thanks for the review!

This was delightful! How I loved the banter between Aragorn and Halbarad here, and the theme of new life and new hope. It was lovely to see this little respite for our two rangers here, amidst the dark days of fighting the Enemy they suffer through most of the time.

Halbarad is the perfect companion to Aragorn's straight man. Perfect. And I loved their tussle in the grass like two little boys!

Author Reply: Thank you, Lily! I'm glad you liked this. I definitely see Halbarad as the more lighthearted of the two... but Aragorn sometimes lets loose his inner little boy. *grin* And yes, even in dark days, the sun still shines occasionally, and this was one of those rare halcyon days for the both of them. Thanks for the review!

I always love your stories!

But I have to say, I am thoroughly glad I was not the one in a headlock getting a noogie from somebody who just helped a ewe deliver the way Aragorn did. XD

Author Reply: LOL... very good point! I imagine Halbarad had to go wash his hair. *grin* Ah, but men don't worry about details like that too much. I'm glad you enjoy my stories, and thank you for the review!

What a lovely, hopeful moment for Aragorn and Halbarad. It's nice to know that their lives would have joy amidst the growing darkness.

Author Reply: Thank you, shirebound! I'm glad you liked this look at the softer side of life. Those moments were probably few, but no doubt all the more highly treasured because of that. Thanks for the review!
