The Findaráto Diaries  by Fiondil 9 Review(s)

Very sneaky of Lord Aulë ;) I suspect he enjoyed both helping Finrod and making Irmo worried. Just a hunch though. At least the stable elves were nicer.

Finrod seems to be coming into his own a bit more, especially with putting his foot down regarding what he's willing to put up with. I have to wonder though if there's a point where he doesn't get a choice in the matter. He still seems to be quite young in a lot of ways.

Eärnur is going to be fun. Is it wrong to hope they find lots of trouble to get into? I am curious too about some of the differences between the Noldor and the Teleri. Aside from Calálcarë, it seems like a lot of the Noldor have been less... accepting?... than their other elven counterparts (Sindar, Teleri). Granted, I haven't read as much, but it was something I noticed and now I'm curious about.

Anyway, thank you for another fun read. I'm really enjoying your story :)

Author Reply: Lord Aulë is very sneaky. Finrod is beginning to be more assured about himself and what he wants and is seeking independence, which is a good thing. Eärnur becomes a good friend to Finrod as we will see later in the story and luckily isn't impressed by titles so he treats Finrod the way one would treat a friend or younger brother, I think.

Thanks for reviewing. I very glad you're enjoying the story.

Back to the "Arabian Nights", aren't we? Poor Finrod, waking up only to find the palace...er, smithy gone, the smith gone as well and a few bystanders looking at him as if he'd gone mad. Not entirely pleasant, in my opinion.

As for Aule..I'm still wondering whether it's more about him than was revealed so far concerning his involvement in Finrod's "education". His' and Yavanna's. There is a time for swords and a time for making horseshoes but I've to admit that I prefer the former. They will need swords again, after all. And, it looks like since Finrod couldn't go to Valmar, nothing easier than bringing Valmar to Finrod. Clever. I'm very interested in finding out what other clever things would cross Aule's mind. Apparently, he has a particular way to annoy the Feanturi (there is also the thing regarding Namo and Ingwion's ring). "smirk"

As for my Dialectical Materialism classes...fortunately, I had to take only the version for preteens. Meaning, "The Party is always right. The beloved ruler is a genius." Even Morgoth would have blushed had he heard such praises. "lol"

Waiting for the next chapter, Sitara.

Author Reply: I think you are correct, Sitara, in that this chapter reveals more about Aule and his present relationship with the Noldor than it does about Finrod. As Irmo points out, Aule pretty much turned his back on the Noldor after what happened during the Darkening, so agreeing to teach Finrod is a good sign that he is ready to forgive those who fled. What further interaction there may be between him and Finrod remains to be seen.

Yuck! Morgoth would indeed have blushed at such praises and probably would have killed the person who spouted them just out of principle. *lol*

Hi Fiondil,

I was afraid at first that Finrod might run into some ridicule for his remarks upon his awakening. It was heartening to see two elves with good heads on their shoulders (finding a Maia to help) and to see a Maia who actually takes Finrod seriously. Yes, that was very devious of Aulë. I confess I thought maybe he added an "extra room" to the stable. Never thought of the possibility of what he realy did!

It seems Finrod and Eärnur are off to a good start, although you hint at some rocky places ahead for them. Finrod needs and is deserving of a good friend. And if that friend can keep him out of trouble, so much the better. But I think that Finrod will give Eärnur a run for his money!

Thanks Fiondil!

Joanne

Author Reply: The two Elves who found Finrod sleeping in the tack room are probably used to Reborn doing odd things and just took it in stride. And the Maiar know better than to dismiss anything a Reborn might say especially where the Valar are concerned. Aule was indeed sneaky, but that´s almost the definition of "Vala" anyway. *lol*

As with any friendship there will be ups and downs, but we know from "Elf, Interrupted" that they remain good friends.

A new friend for Finrod? Eärnur seems like he'd be a good one, but who knows.

I just knew Aule was involved with the smithy business, the rascal. The Valar are having too much fun at the expense of the firstborn.

Author Reply: Well, Earnur is seen to be Finrod´s friend in "Elf, Interrupted" which takes place a century later than this story so obviously their friendship continued to flourish. And the Valar are always having too much fun where the Firstborn are concerned. *grin*

This sounds decidedly more promising than the last counselor. And trust a Vala to twist reality a bit.... Heh!

Author Reply: Yes, indeed, Larner, on both accounts. *grin*

Poor Finrod! To wake up and find the smithy gone had to be quite confusing for him, particularly back then when he was newly released and not used to the way the Valar rearrange the environment if they need to.

Eärnur thought he'd be released from his apprenticeship? Somehow I get the feeling he didn't get on with Meneldil terribly well even back then ... Well, things change very slowly in Aman, but in the end, they will.

"Try to keep you out of trouble, and if I can’t, try to minimize the damage," *LOL* Eärnur has taken on a lot more than he can handle ;) But I am sure these two will get along very well from the beginning.

Author Reply: Hi Kitty. I've been re-reading this story and making some minor corrections and checking reviews as I've discovered to my horror that I've missed responding to some of them and yours is one. Sorry about that.

All you say here is true and we know that Finrod and Eärnur remain good friends from "Elf, Interrupted".

Another wonderful chapter - as always! Poor Earnur, thinking he was going to be dismissed from the program and instead he was being promoted. :)

Author Reply: Thanks, Radbooks. I am glad you found this to be a wonderful chapter. I am sure Earnur breathed a sigh of relief when he found out he wasn´t going to be dismissed, but he probably wondered at being promoted so soon. Still, I think he will work out well with Findarato.

I think Eanur is just what Finderato needs, a friend and not a counselor, some one to watch his back and help pick up the pieces when things go awry!
More please,
Lynda

Author Reply: Definitely, Lynda. Findarato needs a friend more than anything else at this moment, someone who is not in awe of him as the other Reborn are.

I do like Earnur from your other tale. It's good to see him and the beginning of their friendship.

Nice chapter.... calmer. *giggles*

Author Reply: Thanks, Agape. I am glad you like Earnur. Thanks for letting me know. And I am glad you are feeling a little calmer. *grin*
