| This was lovely! The secret seed, waiting all those long years for the return of the King--indeed, the secret lineage of Nimloth and the secret lineage of Elendil, unmistakably connecting the tree as a metaphor of Aragorn himself. It's the kind of thing that tends to give me goosebumps. :) I'm not very good at analyzing poetry, but this seems in some ways to be in the same vein as Bilbo's verses about Aragorn. I think of the line, "Deep roots are not touched by the frost" when I read your "embraced in soil". And of course, the last line is perfect, as the two come together at last (it almost feels like a romance, putting it that way!) Terrific job! Author Reply: Many thanks, Cairistiona! Giving me goosebumps is the right expression, it's really amazing how Tolkien manages to do it every time when you realize some deep, but not so obvious connection. I'm not very good in analyzing poetry either, English poetry, at least. I translated this poem from Slovak, so I'm really glad that it reminds you on Bilbo's poetry - Bilbo is a good poet! =) A romance - really! The tree was the sign that Arwen is coming to Minas Tirith, and that the line of Elendil will continue! Now *I* have goosebumps... | |

| Very, very well done. What a wonder the White tree must have been. Author Reply: Thank you! I have the feeling that the White tree in some way symbolizes Aragorn himself: it survived hidden through the dark time, like the line of Kings among the Dúnedain. Then it sprouted like the birth of hope, and grew with the renewal of the kingdom. For the wedding of Aragorn and Arwen it flowered, blessing their marriage to be fruitful... A wonder indeed! | |
