Yes, a beautiful look at the end of a long life and how her young granddaughter understands what has been told to her of that long-ago time. A sad tale, yet uplifting as well, with hints of an apparent falling-out with Pippin. I still find that odd, as Pippin gave the copy of the Red Book to the King on which allegedly our whole appreciation of the history of Arda is based. He will support the broader education of all outside the Shire but not inside it? You are going to have to fill in that particular corner, preferably somewhat sooner.

(And do give a look at my story for the challenge--heh!)

Author Reply: Sandra was born after Pippin left the Shire, so Pippin's not even a factor in this Falling-Out; rather, it exists between his son Faramir and the populus of hobbits at large ("representative of the King" was simply referring to Faramir's title as Thain).

I try to leave the Travellers' efforts to support education outside of my stories, as things have clearly taken a reversal since their time (I still owe Sam a couple of apology fics for some of the less charitable things Kira has thought about him in her ignorance).

Anyway, hope that clears that up for you, and I'm glad you enjoyed the tale!
