“Where did the elves come from anyway? They’re not in the Bible.”
“Thank the Valar,” Glorfindel heard Elrohir whisper..

hilarious. What a great idea this story is!
I especially like your "history lessons". I have never thought about what the rendeer have to do with the old northern legens about Odin. Thank you for a wonderful read. Lai

Author Reply: Hi Lai. I'm glad you like the history lessons. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

Well, it's gone 1 a.m. so that makes it the 5th, Atto. Lol. Seems to me that Glorfi and the Twins couldn't help being, well, Elves. At least they impressed their archery instructors. As for Elf Legends...well, the instructors will have to get used to accomodating the real Elves, hmm? Anyway, I need to sleep, but I wanted you to know I enjoyed this chapter again!

Tye-melin, Atto.

Author Reply: Hi Kaylee. Glorfi and the Twins are finding it harder than the other Elves not to be Elves in this situation. Not sure why Daeron and the ellith are not affected as much. At any rate, I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it. Tye-melin.

The class was even more interesting than the previous one! :) I did not know half the stories and legends about Santa Claus, though... LOL The class was enlightening as well as amusing. Ah, but it was 'usurped' again... Glad that this time it was the other students who did it, rather than Glorfindel. It provided a more-varied atmosphere too. (And I did not know that Nimrodel could be so talkative... She always had something to say in all the classes, even beyond the twins!)

What football was refered here? English football (soccer) or American football? Anyhow, I was surprised that there were many open-field sports there, even though most of the times the temperature was minus zero. Would you let us glimpse into Daeron's softball class in the next chapter(s)? That would be entertaining, watching him measure the strength when striking at the ball... I did not follow what others chose; hmph. Too many sports for too many people for varied interests... Would you clarify it to me? :embarrassed:

Marian seemed to take the unexpected turn of events in her class more smoothly than Deirdre. I was surprised, though, that she did not patrol the groups from time to time. Dunno. That seemed to be just the logical thing to do... By the way, is it really fair that the second half of the students body only formed the booklet for them all? Well, I saw no other solution, but I still thought their work was too... bland. I wonder if they were messing up with everything else right now, just as the first half did with the two poor instructors.

Oh, so the course was actually a part of... something larger? I thought the college was solely dedicated for Elf Academy. Umm. And one question I forgot to ask (Kind of nitpicky...): Why did Daeron and Nimrodel get the scholarship? Was it given randomly or something like that? Good that now Glorfindel and the twins got similar treatment. :) Now it only left Mithrelas out of the equation. (Any plan for her?)

When I read the title of the chapter and the first part of it, I half-hoped to see some tales about the "true Elves," as Nimrodel (if I am not mistaken) put it. Kind of disappointed when the Elves deftly avoided that topic. LOL But by the way, if it was the present year, then the films of Lord of the Rings should have been popular, should they not? From what I know from wandering around fan fiction sites, people usually watch the films before reading the books, and some of them never read the books anyway. It would have been fascinating (in the least), watching the Elves deal with the subject of Tolkien and his works.

So... Cassie and Matt were actually students in the Elves' 'batch'? Then why had they been the receptionists in the welcome day instead of students lining up to get their orientation packages like the others?
LOL Guess it is a rather lengthy review already... Pardon my nitpickiness. I still love the story, anyhow.

Author Reply: Touch football is an American toned-down version of American football in which you cannot tackle anyone, you merely have to touch them for them to be 'out'. It's often played for fun among adults at parties and such. In spite of people's perceptions, the area just north of the Arctic Circle is not covered with snow all year around. The temperatures can be quite moderate during the summer months and so outdoor activities can be done.

As for why Daeron and Nimrodel got the scholarships... well that is just part of the story and has no real significance beyond the fact that it has made their financial burden easier. You really need not read too deeply and think that everything in this story has some high significance when most of the time it is merely a detail to add depth to the story.

Cassie and Matt, being local residents, probably were acting as student volunteers. Most likely they both are graduates of the college with some other degree and decided to join the Elf Academy to earn money during the holiday season.

In the particular universe of this story neither the LOTR books nor the movies were ever produced. It makes it much easier for me not to have to deal with that.

Words of wisdom from Glorfindel; Eru (God) can create or do anything he chooses.

This archery match sounds like so much fun. Too bad it’s not real. I tried archery myself two or three times and really loved it. Of course it was not enough to become very good. Maybe I just didn’t have the right teacher. (giggles)

Author Reply: I have dabbled in archery myself but I am really no good at it. You may be right, though, about having the right teacher. *grin*

*snort* Talk about showing off! Especially Glorfi...*grin* I loved the chapter, Atar Fiondil, I could just see it! I bet the others are sorry they missed out on the fun!

Kaylee

Author Reply: Thanks, Kaylee. I am glad you love this chapter, especially Glorfi showing off.

They just couldn't resist, could they? *grin* Still, it must be very wearing, hiding one's true identity for hundreds of years. I do like to see Glorfindel doing well!

It is strange how the legends have diminished the Elves over the years. The Irish stories were very clear that they were tall and powerful, not the little creatures the Victorians were so fond of. Perhaps they confused their Elves and hobbits.............

Author Reply: Hi, Baggins Babe. Yes it is strange how the legends have diminished the Elves. Even the Germanic Elves were tall and powerful. I am afraid that Victorian sentimentality got in the way of the truth. And you might be correct about confusing Elves with Hobbits. After all, they both have pointed ears. *grin*

i love way they are taking over the classes. the archery was a hoot! i wonder what other mischief they will get into because they just couldn't help it...

Author Reply: Thanks ellie. Glad you are enjoying this. We will see what other mischief they get into as the semester goes on.

That chapter was so much fun! Really enjoyed the legends lesson. To try and mesh all these legends into only one version is pretty much impossible, so it's a good idea to try and explain the others away. We'll see how much success they will have with that *grin* And I see the other students are taking their clue and taking over the class even without the Elves having to do anything :D

Loved Daeron's theory how the Elves were included into the legend of Santa Claus. And the problem of size was a great point as well!

At that rate, I am really looking forward to the costme part. I can't imagine them accepting anything ridiculous, not after this class! (And anyway, I can imagine particularly Glorfindel rather in a balrog costume than in the sort of Elf costume I fear the teachers (or worse, the people in that committee) have come up with!)

Ha, the moment I saw the word 'archery' I had an idea what was to come, and I was right! Of course the former warriors had to chose that, and of course they could not resist to show off! Including Glorfindel, who beforehand was saying something about low-key and not drawing attention *eg* In fact, he was the worst in that regard!

Seems a good idea to have Glorfindel and the twins helping with the archery lessons. They have more experience than all the others put together (even if Phil doesn't know), and it would help them financially as well.

Author Reply: Hi Kitty. Glad you enjoyed this chapter so much. I had a time researching the different Santa legends and trying to incorporate them into the discussion and then bring in the idea of how Elves got into the story.

As for the costumes.... that is a chapter all of its own and will be coming up soon enough. And what Glorfindel's reaction to them will be... well, we will have to wait and see. *evil grin*

I think Glorfindel just could not resist showing off, especially with the twins complaining that they are so out of practice. *LOL* Helping to teach the archery class though will be good for them all, especially financially.

Looks like the Elves are making a differance already, by the time they are finished the course will be a whole lot better, for everybody!
The archery class was good, they are in their element, liked the way they could not resist showing off a little and also that they are going to be earning a little money, every bit helps. How did Misty and Della work out with the volley ball?
More please,
Lynda

Author Reply: We will see in the next chapter how the ellith made out. Glad you liked the archery class. They can use the extra money that's for sure.
