Elf Academy  by Fiondil 15 Review(s)

we often forget that Glorfndel is one of the really old! His anger at the outfits was understandable and frightening. The poor teacher has not grasped the danger, I fear. I liked Glorfndel´s reaction: quiet, controlled but determined.

Author Reply: Yes, Glorfindel is one of the really old Elves and the teachers have no idea the danger they are in. A wrathful Glorfindel is not someone you want to meet in a dark alley or even in broad daylight. *grin* Thanks for commenting. It's appreciated.

...and green isn't either!

Seriously, Atto, who came up with these stupid clothes? :( Poor Deirdre and Marian, once again having a protest on their hands. But it was bound to happen, really. Who in their right mind would wear that stuff?

I think that and wings would be worse, though!

Here's hoping things get resolved more peacefully than not...

Tye-melin,

Kaylee

Author Reply: Hi, Kaylee. I'm afraid Deirdre and Marian went a little overboard on the whole elf-thing, trying to be authentic instead of practical. Glorfi definitely put them in their places, though, for which we can be all be grateful. *grin* And probably wings would be worse but the absurdity of Elladan saying wings would be an improvement helped diffuse the situation and allowed Glorfi to climb down from the heights of his anger and see the humor of the situation.

Anyway, thanks for commenting. Tye-melin.

Oh, those poor teachers. They have no idea what they've gotten themselves into. I'm surprised they didn't say anything about purchasing kits with which to give the elves pointed ears. Wouldn't they be shocked for find out there are those among them who wouldn't need a kit. I'd love to be a little fly right about now, flitting throughout the school. What a sight I would see.

Author Reply: No, those teachers have no idea what they've gotten themselves into, Tari, which is half the fun of reading this, isn't it? *grin* Maybe the fake elf ears were the next thing on their to-do list but with the reaction to the outfits, that got sort of put to the side.

Again, I thought that Glorfindel's reaction was a bit too much. But I recognised why he had reacted that way too. *wince* The outfit was a wound to someone's (especially an Elf-lord (though in disguise)) ego, and it would not have looked nice either if worn.

Now I wonder if the people in the academy were beginning to regret ever allowing the Elves, especially Glorfindel, that freedom; the people in charge, I mean. Heh... Poor Deirdre and Marian. I think the other instructors were not as unlucky as they were in that regard.

The protest movement was great. The feel of it was so much that I felt excited myself (umm... and a little vindictive about the outfit too... so I might have been a hypocrit to suggest that Glorfindel's answer had been overrated :P) about it, like I was there.

I love the snow globe. (Is that how it is called? I forget. :embarrassed:) It was kind of cute, for a present for Glorfindel, too. I wonder why he was so emotional about it, though. Was it because of the thoughtfulness of Daeron to bring 'home' a gift for him? Or more in the line of finally having something to distract himself, to cheer himself more, with? I was rather surprised that there was already a Christmas shop there...

The mystery book was a nice touch. Hmm. Who was the author? Something like... Indiana Jones? Dunno. I never keep up with that genre... It made everything look even more real for the Elves - that they indulge in mortal books and passtimes. Daeron's hobby was not that noticible, because music was common everywhere, and he did not look like taking up more-modern instruments. The ellyth, come to think of itagain, were rather 'ordinary' too... They faded to the background too much.

I thought Lily would have been the sort of timid or self-conscious girl. At least it had been my first impression of her in the first chapters. Now she looked rather outgoing...

Author Reply: I meant to explain about igloos and such in a previous reply to your review and forgot. I am not sure what your question about igloos pertains to. The traditional igloo is built of solid blocks of snow, but you can pile up snow without making it into blocks. We used to make snow forts and such when we were kids. And it's called snowshoe walking. These are traditionally wooden paddle-like constructions with ropes made into a kind of net. Think of an oversized tennis racket without a handle. These are then strapped on your feet and you walk on top of the snow.

As for the snow globe... I think Glorfindel was just tickled pink at the gift esepcially since it refers back to the song the other Elves sang previously using the tune of Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer. And the other Elves were aware of his mood and sought to brighten it a bit and he appreciated their efforts in that regard.

Christmas shops can be found all year round in many places. They are common in America and also here in Europe.

The Elves have learned to be chameleons, blending into the mortal landscape for protection so they don't reveal themselves too much. I'm not sure who the mystery writer is. Just someone who writes historical fiction with a mystery involved. There are plenty of such authors around.

And Lily is a bit shy and self-conscious but obviously being around the Elves has helped her to come out of her shell a bit.

Love the idea with the snow globe, and I liked the archery lesson. The Elves seem to have fun with these lessons, and I am sure their students have fun, too.

Ha, I knew it, I knew it! The costumes the school had designed had to be something absolutely terrible and embarassing! So I absolutely enjoyed the student's reaction. This time the Elves hadn't even to be the first one to rebel, the Mortals did a good job at this! And it was fun to watch everyone back away from Glorfindel. He has to be quite intimidating when he's in – can I call that 'balrog-slayer mode'?

Interesting to watch how everyone – and not only the Elves – expect Glorfindel to take care of the situation and make things better. And from the looks of it, they're right. I enjoyed everything they did to get out of these ridiculous costumes!

Thank you for a particularly enjoyable chapter! I love this story more and more with each chapter :-)

Author Reply: Hi, Kitty. You are most welcome. I am glad you found this chapter particularly enjoyable and that you love this story more and more with every chapter. I did have some doubts as to how well received this story would be considering that it is so completely different from what I normally write so I am glad people are enjoying it very much.

Glorfindel is such a natural leader that even the Mortals unconsciously sense it and respond to it, as they do here. And he is quite intimidating even when he isn't in 'balrog-slayer mode'. *LOL*

My brain really wasn't online yesterday - I spent the day mostly with my duvet and two woolen blankets pulled up all the way to my nose, shivering. I have reread the chapter today. No, I wouldn't want to be caought dead in something like that either.
Still, the image of Glorfindel in a brass codpiece - and not much more - is interesting, though... ;-)

Author Reply: I can quite understand, Sunny. I hope you are feeling better today. Yes, Glorfindel in a brass codpiece does evoke interesting images. *grin*

LOL, love, love, love Elrohir and Elladan. I would have ducked and cover too. An angry Glorindel is not some thing I would want to be any where near either.

Immensely enjoying this story.

Author Reply: Thanks, Eliza. I am glad you are enjoying this story. I appreciate you taking the time to let me know.

Fiondil, I don't know why I never read this before. It is so crazy and perfect. I'm at work and reading and trying not to laugh so loud!!! I can't wait for more chapters....

Good that the Valar are still around looking for our elves...

Author Reply: Well, this story has only been up for a few weeks and will be done with in a few weeks more. I am glad you found it and are enjoying it. Thanks for letting me know. I greatly appreciate it.

Oy vey. The Elf Academy is in its first year, isn't it? That would explain so many silly things.

Wow. EVERYTHING about those costumes is awful. The design, and the materials (felt deforms easily, the knees on those pants will look baggy in about two hours and will not go back, and it'll likely gather dirt like a vacuum cleaner), and that it's dry clean only.

Author Reply: I tried to make the costumes as bad as possible. I am glad you agree. *grin*

ROFLOL!!!!! It seems Glorfi & co. don't need to take over the classes anymore, the Mortals do a good job of it on their own! And honestly, those uniforms? Ick! Seriously ick. Good for them, protesting it all!

(By the way, love the snowglobe. I love snowglobes!!! Especially musical ones!)

Can't wait to see what happens next! This time next week will be my last day before winter break, and when I come back, there will be a new teacher...my instructor's accepted a new job in Ventura, and she's leaving us! :(

Eagerly awaiting the next installment!

Tye-melin, Atar indonyo!

Kaylee

Author Reply: I don't think any sane person would want to wear those uniforms, anyway, so it is a good thing the Mortals are taking their cue from the Elves about taking over the classes and protesting. Glad you are still enjoying this, Kaylee. Good luck with your new teacher.
