A Deck of Heroes  by Larner 6 Review(s)

What an amazing moment that must have been for them all! I'm sure Esme and Sara didn't rest well again until Merry was back home and in their arms.

Author Reply: Oh, yes--the realization their sons were safe and back in the Shire must have been such a relief. That they went first to Hobbiton must have been very difficult!

That must have been one of the best days in their lifes, learning that the Travellers were back, alive and well! And very typical of Esme to take good care of the messengers. It must have been hard for her to have to wait, not being able to just run off to see her son and his friends again.

Author Reply: Oh, yes--their son and former foster son and nephew and Sam are back, alive and apparently well! What a relief that must have been, in spite of the four deciding straight off to confront Lotho rather than coming "home!" You are so right, Kitty!

THere is so much strength and goodness in Hobbits.

Author Reply: Oh, yes--Hobbits are (or are meant to be) reminders of the strength to be found in simplicity and common pleasures and joys. Thanks so, Linda.

What a moment that must have been! How the heart of a mother must have been ablaze with duty, relief, and love.

Author Reply: Oh, I'm certain you are right, Shirebound! She must have wanted to strangle the lot of them--then bring them home and tuck them into bed and pamper them however she could!

Joy to you!

A background moment that would have happened, indeed. People must have been so amazed when those four returned!

Author Reply: Oh, yes, I'm certain you are right, Virtuella. Thanks so!

One of my favourite hobbits is finally given due credit - I love Esme. I've read stories where she was cruel to Frodo and all sorts of nonsense but I'm sure Frodo's close relationship with Merry was due to his love for Esme and Saradoc.

Lovely to see Esme putting others first, as she has always done.

Author Reply: I didn't really like the way Esme was presented by Anglachel, and felt that as one who had to have helped raise Frodo after his parents' deaths she had to be a good sort and a good mother. Am so glad you like my depiction of her!
